A source gathered that the accident occurred at about 5 a.m. close to the Agbogbo Filling Station in
Akure.

An eyewitness said the crash involved a Toyota 14-seater commercial bus with number plates Plateau
PKN 63 XA, and another commercial Mercedes Benz bus with number plates Abuja 561 KWL.

A source said the crash was caused by the reckless driving of both drivers, while another source
attributed the crash to over-taking by one of the drivers of the commercial vehicles, which led to a
head-on collision.
Vanguard learned that one of the buses was reportedly heading for Abuja from Lagos, while the other
was coming from Jos, Plateau State, and heading towards Lagos.

Another source said: “We just heard a very loud bang and quickly rushed down there, only to meet the
two buses in the accident, while the passengers were trapped inside one of the buses. Many of them
were already dead.”
