Why Do Our Leaders Take Us As Dogs? by Quality20(m): 7:56am On Jan 27, 2018
I was at a mosque yesterday for friday prayers in Sokoto - I was early so I could be in the front rows, but when I stepped on the front row, I was told to step back that the mosque was expecting some guests. Just as the imam was about to commence the sermon two coaster buses filled with men and a car emerged, conveying a serving senator who was a two time deputy governor/governor and his entourage - they quickly disembarked and made for the two empty front rows, while the rest of us who came earlier looked on with mixed feelings.
As if that wasn't enough insult, while the senator was leaving he started spraying new bills of hundred naira notes on the road, while youths struggle to pick up the notes, with many of the youths getting injured in the struggle and parts of the road littered with footwear of various types. And this is not just a one off thing, this particular senator is well known for spraying money from his car while being driven through the city, and all the time young men would be left to fight and struggle for money on busy roads, endangering their lives and that of motorists.
The questions begging for answer now is: must people be so daft as to risk accidents just because of some notes? Even if they are so poor must they be treated as dogs? Doesn't this senator know that he is risking the lives of these young people, because eventually there could be fatalities ?

Because many people behave like dogs.

It's because the masses don't know that power really belongs to them.

When true leadership and statesmanship are sacrificed on the altar of religion bigotry and ethnic bigotry, this is what you get.
"Leaders" who in a sane society wouldn't have any business leading even a pack of cow.
The choices we make .
change it or stop complaining.

In your submission you asked the question but then answered it in the stories. It is because our people roll over like dogs in their midst. One can't blame them.

Because, at the end of their first tenure, we miraculously forgive their ineptitude, and the fact that they never fulfilled their campaign promise, .. Accept a cup of rice from them and return them back into power....
