Rachelsblog:
So Yesterday Son Of Glo Founder Paddy Adenuga Wrote a revealing article about how he almost bought Chevron oil and gas company in Netherlands at the age 29 without his father Mike Adenuga's help..

And Media Personality Shade Ladipo thinks its completely ridiculous for him to say such, Cos he can't and wouldn't have been able to travel to London talk more of Buy a Whole Company like Chevron, if he hadn't used his father's name.. She said its shameful for him to say that..

Stupid girl has a complex!!!
I learnt lessons from that write up, so did others

Build your network, don't hide information from your friends/colleagues, follow your instinct, more experienced doesn't mean they are right, never be limited by your age... and so on

But she can't comprehend only seeing the lavish parts and not the part that's meant to be learnt.

All that long write up n all she saw was townhouse, switzerland and the flashy part. I call it an olosho ear filter, only hears money/ parole and not the work behind.

I wonder what her own article is trying to achieve, make people feel they can't get rich if they aren't connected?

If that article has given more reasons to achieve, ignore her. You don't have to be rich/privileged to succeed!

Let her waste her time saying rubbish

Una just wan take laugh kill person for here! cheesy She probably lives in a bedsitter in Peckham, so when Paddy mentioned his town house in London, she saw red! wink

And if he used his father's name so what?

Your father's name is a valuable resource that not many are able to use. All this hating on rich people just because they are rich needs to stop.

Hehehehe, Nigerians sef..

Anybody can bid for any company, infact, you can even sit down at home and bid, worst you won't win it..

Every contractor and business man bid, win and loose bids everyday...

There's no big deal and nothing special about that story.
Anybody can register a company abroad, if you fulfill some conditions which are not difficult...

I will still cut cap for a yahoo boy who successfully scam an oyinbo than take paddy's story series...

Read the stuff,it was just full of over Sabi, pride and over fed ego sad

He could have passed the message without any such image laundry

What was the massage?

1.trust your instincts

2.getting the right information,is the game changer (if he had found out who the final bidder was, he probably would have won the bid.and his friend,Remi would have been of help but never confided )

3.his refusal to pay Edger for his commensurate service earlier, instead choosing "araroro" also contributed to the unsuccessful bid

Simple message that doesn't require all the bragging

What exactly do you know about bidding for a quoted, well structured international exploration company, in Western Europe? shocked Do you think it is like bidding for one of those epileptic state-owned parastatals in Nigeria, which are sold to cronies of govt and their proxies? Are you aware that such international bids for foreign firms must be backed by cash, expertise and detailed plans, before it can even be considered? Are you aware that losing an international bid, can cause a dent in your corporate profile, if the reasons for the loss were untenable? Are you aware that if you are a publicly quoted company, any bids you make or any bids made by your firm, affects your stock prices?

If anyone can submit a bid, how come you have not submitted one and bought over a company in the same class as Chevron Netherlands?

what I can deduce from her post in conclusion is that.. If you are not rich or have access to wealth then you certainly cannot be successful or at least make big moves.. Or why is she emphasising on the fact that its only because he's rich he was able to make such bold move..

This is pure hate and jealousy! Hustling hard and high is not the exclusive right of the poor.. The difference with a rich kid hustler like this is that he has easy access to wealth. But then, he's not just living lavishly alone like other rich kids.. He's also launching out on his own with strong business moves..agreed, courtesy of his wealth.

I bet if this woman was also a rich kid with access to money, she's the type that will rather only sit back to enjoy daddy's money and that may ever be the only achievement of her life.

She's a bitter person though, probably hardened by Denials and disappointments caused by her lack of privilege and ordinary last name. undecided

I agree, she's kinda right although highly pained. The paddy guy trying to paint himself as a hustler by his own 4got that it's money you use to acquire another company, especially a multi-national. The whole story is actually quite a failure story, hustlers are not judged on shoulda-woulda-coulda. When we fail an exam in college, u have to rewrite it, it's when you pass that you can share your success story. I think if he had acquired the company, it would have been a success, I mean it's not like he didn't have the resources.

He should disown his dad to make a statement to you guys...

We all are product of someone, whether they are poor or wealthy we did not get to choose our parents....So no one should be bashed for having a poor or wealthy father but what they do with the poverty or wealth of their parent is what should be judged.

I don’t know what success mean to you, but if you don’t achieve your objective, you failed. If celebrating a takeover bid is now presumed to be success, then there is need for reexamination.

I partially agree with the lady. Paddy became an executive director in his father’s company at 29. Many average 29s are still sorting out the tuition fees for university or college. Paddy’s story is not for the average Nigerian. It can be a bragging right for his friends in their elite gathering.

Being from a privileged home plays a long role and determines how you define your own success. E.g Malia Obama, she recent just gained admission into Harvard and she is currently an intern for a high production film studio.

Let those who refuse to learn anything keep wallowing in ignorance and setting up excuses for their poverty.
10 years from now, they'll be biting their bony fingers in regret.

You dey mind dem? sad What Paddy did, by assembling some of the finest minds and talents, as well as bringing top-notch executives of state-owned oil firms on board to collaborate with him in this bid, is what some well heeled financiers attempt to do, every single day in the West, with far less tangible results. Time is money, and you think the calibre of key players that Paddy brought together, would just throw away their time and knowledge, simply because of the cash coming from one small African boy? Paddy was able to sell his vision to them, and they bought into his ideas! undecided

Vance Querio, the COO of Addax Petroleum, Richard Kent of Jeffries the investment bank, Jan-Dirk Bokhoven, the MD of the Dutch state-owned oil company, EBN etc, are not small boys by any standard. Do you know how fully booked their diaries are, for months on end? Or do you think that EBN could not have launched the bid for Chevron Netherlands on their own, without Paddy in the mix?

Many Wall Street financiers wouldn't even give you the time of day, no matter how wealthy you are, if your business does not make sense to them. There are so many rich kids all over the world basking in their father's wealth, yet they have no idea of how to add one cent to such wealth, or even improve any aspect of their family business. sad

Paddy is attempting to do all that, yet some numbskulls can only crucify him for it, instead of learning from his endeavours. And we wonder why failure is so rampant in this country! angry People are too used to mediocrity everywhere you look, in Naija...

Hello Shade Ladipo Market

1. Your post reeks of pure hatred, envy, jealousy and makes you sound like the young man wronged you.
2. Paddy Adenuga did not throw his story at your face or force you to read through at gun point.
3. While you are entitled to your opinion, you should be reasonable and not make yourself a fool in the public square.
4. Paddy Adenuga's being privileged to be born into a rich family does not make him less of human being who shouldn't take his chances at life. He has taken a shot at life, hence his story.
5. It isn't Paddy Adenuga's fault that your father or my father aren't billionaires.
6. We are all hustling hard to provide a guaranteed future for our kids. If I eventually turn out to be a billionaire like Mike Adenuga, I don't expect anyone to throw my kids under the bus or rant because I have paid the price like Mike Adenuga has.

The problem with Nigerians is that we love to celebrate mediocrity. A success story worth celebrating is a dropout from college becoming the richest man in the world, or a kid on scholarship at college becoming the youngest billionaire in the world; or an employee who left his company for his own startup only for it to become a company with revenue larger than the budgets of some countries(apple); or some final year students who took their project to yahoo to buy, got turned only for them to use d same project to start their own company and then acquire yahoo. That's a success story of nothing to something using your brain. The paddy guy ambition is commendable (u need ambition to succeed as an entrepreneur) but he had all the resources at his disposal. He should have quietly learnt his lessons, do better next time, then come to share his success story that's how you know if truly you learnt from your initial shortcomings

Did you also read about how he brought a brilliant English banker named Edgar on board, who had more than 30 years of oil & gas operations and finance experience? And did you read about how he eventually raised the money before bidding? Or did you miss this part where he said;
Despondent, I called my mentor for a way forward. We spoke extensively and as I expected, he was the only one that saw how important Chevron Netherlands would be as a technical partner-operator in Africa. We agreed that between myself as a small cash contributor, himself, and a few other investors we could raise cash of USD 50 million as a maximum bid price.

He spoke about being 29, because that was how old he was when putting together this deal! sad Would you have preferred him to say he was 41, when he was actually 29? I don't get it. A number of 29 year olds, would probably not be thinking along those lines, because of their level of exposure or their different perspectives, on life. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

All the flak against Paddy, is simply due to the fact that he has a rich father. If his dad was a commodity trader in a Lagos market, would you all have shown this same level of resentment towards him? Just asking....
