Back then in the school, there was this man of God we invited to our campus fellowship. As he was preaching on the alter, we saw him receiving calls and he will gave us the reason that the call is from his superiors.

My question is that, is it right or wrong?

If u don't receive calls whilst in a meeting with your boss then you should not receive calls while in a meeting with God

it's not right, as a good pastor you shouldn't let anything interfere with service proceedings, what will you tell a member if he does so in a service

The questions should be:

Do we really need physical altars?

And supposing we need physical altars, is the altar in your church even pure at all? The purity of the altar can also be determined by the person who established it.

Have you heard of the pastor that claimed he was calling God with his phone on the alter and his members were excited.
Show of stupidity.

Any body that can make call on the alter while preaching deserves to be shot in the ear

It is absolutely wrong for a pastor to make or pick a call on the altar, because there should be no distraction when you are in the church but fully concentrate to receive God's blessings
