The presiding judge of the Tudun Wada Shari’a court in Gusau, Zamfara State, Alhaji Bashir Maisule, has dismissed acase brought before it by Hajiya Aisha Umar against her 18-year-old son, who tied the nuptial knot with a 55-year-old woman, Hajiya Ai Mai Kare.

In his judgment, the judge disclosed that from the available evidence presented in court, the couple actually married according to the Islamic law.

He said in Islam, it was not compulsory for the young man to notify his representatives, stressing that he could nominate a slave to stand for him as a representative.

According to him, what is compulsory is only for the woman to inform her relations before a marriage is contracted.

Quoting a Koranic verse, (Suratul Nisa’i), the judge contended that the issue of age was not a barrier among couples who wanted to get married pointing out that the same verse allowed a man to marry as many as four wives if he could do justice to them.

Alhaji Danmaisule remarked that the 18-year-old defendant was mentally mature to marry the woman.

On the allegation of charm, the Shari’a court judge said the mother of Bashir failed to establish the fact that her son was charmed.

However, the judge asked the teenager to apologise to his mother for disobeying her wish.

I wish them a blissful marital life. I also pray that the marriage would be blessed with many children - menopause or no menopause.

There's no law in the world that should annul a wedding of an 18 year old to a 55 year old.

@Goldmind

there's no taboo about this. There's no incest here.

If Sharia Law should promote something Western culture does not, you complain. When Sharia Law promotes what Western culture does, you complain. What exactly do you want? You're just against the Sharia Law for no reason at all.

As men marry young women in their teens, women too should be allowed to marry young boys in their teens, as long as they don't go below the legal age. Or are you just angry cos Sharia is promoting equality of the sexes?

Why are our muslim brothers behaving unreasonable in their actions.
First it was an ex-gov marrying an 13year old teenage girl.
Now, an 18year on youth marrying a 55year old grand mother.
Chei, what is actually wrong with this religion?
