We really need the practising mechanical engineers to widen our knowledge of mechanical engineering, that is:
1. What to expect after graduation.
2. What we can do while in school to enhance, at least, our productivity and prepare us for the challenges in the field.
3. How we can survive as engineers in the field.
4. How interesting is this course. That's motivation.
5. Relationship between what we are being taught in school and real field practicals.
6. How we should plan our ways.
7. About COREN and NSE and their importants.

Thanks, young MechEngrs would be glad if response is given to the aformentioned.
Thanks once again

Let me attempt to discuss this not in any particular order though.

NSE and COREN very essential. To be a corporate member of NSE, you must have graduated for at least four years. You then go ahead to get registered with COREN. This is particularly important because most company have preference for registered engineers.

What to expect? Just keep an open mind. You may even end up in another field (sincerely)

While in school take all you courses seriously because you would meet them one way or the other if you eventually practice.

Interesting, demanding and could be stiffening(from a personal point of view) . As long as your calculation and reasoning skills are sound. You are good to go.

Plan your ways? Stay focused and hold tenaciously to your dreams. A little bit of flexibility would do you much good. Yeah, don't be too rigid.

And most importantly , the God factor.

It's pretty good to hear that. We really need to get more info concerning this field. But, anyway, I believe it's a rewarding course to study provided the passion for it is burning.

Am a serving corp member with B.eng mech engr frm a fed university!! I believe dia is more to mech eng dan wot I c on dis thread! Wia hv d engineers gone!! Abi de r too busy to enlighten younger ones!! Dnt hv much experience bt I did my intenship wit d maintenance unit of nnpc-ppmc! Wia I was exposed to overhauling of multistage centrifugal pumps, servicing of pressure valves and general maintenance of allen engines(16 cylinders).. It was a nice experience n den I was able to relate my theoritical knwledge n d practical stuffs!! Am proud to hv a degree in mech eng d mother of all engineering courses!!

Welcome on board. Just as you noted, the field of Mechanical Engineering is so broad that you can specialise in specific area.

With your experience, you can decide to work in the oil and gas sector of the economy (that is if you want to pursue such).

For the upcoming Mechanical Engineers, the field of metallurgy and Material Science are great as they have very wide applications particularly the oil and gas sector. One can be a Corrosion Engineer and also a Material and Testing Engineer.

Good day everybody.. I'm Nnamdi a 400L mech student from unizik. I am trying to design a light car with a group of other students in my school but we are in a bit of a situation when we were considering engine selection. The problem is that locally not many kinds of engines are available. Single cylinder 200cc motorcycle engines are just not powerful enough, 4 cylinders might be too heavy. Can i pls get some advice and if possible someone should pls direct me to where I can get a comprehensive catalogue of engines available locally here at a reasonable cost.[color=#006600]

While u consider most of the above mentioned mechanical options in previous posts. I'll also recommend MAINTENANCE as a very vital option in mech eng!!! U can fit into just any industry with it. Its d key to company n operational continuity and sustenance.
