A crippling stomach bug named norovirus has struck at the on-going Winter Olympics 2018 in Pyeongchang, South Korea and is threatening to cause havoc at the games.

The virus nicknamed “winter vomiting bug” is known to break out on cruise ships and usually spread through contacts with infected people or contaminated food and water surfaces.

Accusing fingers are pointing in the direction of North Korea as the brain behind the suspected virus attack, months after the communist state vowed revenge against its neigbours for exposing its weapon facilities to the world.

On Sunday, it was reported that dozens of security guards at the Olympic sites started to experience norovirus symptoms, which typically include nausea, diarrhea, stomach pain and vomiting before they were taken to the hospital.

Another 1200 Olympic staffers were also confined to their rooms, as fear of the virus has forced the organizers to replace them with 900 military personnel pending medical test.

It was gathered that none of the athletes has so far been reported to be affected by the winter vomiting bug and the game continues till 25th February.

In other to contain the virus, the organizers are working to figure out the source of the problem; ramping up hygiene inspections and passing around hand sanitizers.
