Abia: ‘Why Ngwa community lacks development’
From Emmanuel Ugwu in Umuahia, 04.24.2010
Sunday, April 25, 2010

The simmering roundlings among Ukwa/Ngwa sections of Abia State over alleged marginalisation of the area has generated sharp reactions in Government House, Umuahia, with aides of Governor Theodore Orji saying that Ngwa people were the architects of their own misfortune.

A group under the aegis of Concerned Ngwa Citizens in Asia, Europe and USA irked the government when it claimed in an advertorial entitled “the state of Ngwa/Ukwa communities in Abia State” that the area was “highly” marginalised while the governor was doing nothing to reverse it.

But the special adviser to the governor on print media, Joshua Ogbonna, told newsmen that the claims were a bundle of lies which flies in the face of facts. He said the Orji administration has invested so much in the development of Ngwa land.

According to him, as much 60 percent of the state resources are spent in Aba to improve the infrastructure in the commercial city and also develop other areas in Ukwa/Ngwa axis.

He said the involvement of Ngwa people in kidnapping and armed robbery was hampering development efforts of government.

“All efforts of government efforts are being frustrated by Ukwa/Ngwa land. They should help government fish out the criminals (because) it is only in Ngwa land that kidnapping is still in Abia,” he said.

Corroborating his colleague in government, the special adviser to the governor on electronic media, Ugochukwu Emezue, wondered why Ngwa people should engage in blackmailing the governor who has been striving hard to carry every section of the state along.

He said that the Concerned Citizens of Ngwa/Ukwa were ill-informed of the developments in the state as the governor has been making positive impacts in every sector of the economy in the state.

He cited the massive road construction and 68 health centres and specialist hospitals built by the Orji administration.

On the alleged massive acquisition of property by the governor, Emezue said that Orji deserved to have his own private house having been in public service for over eight years, adding that it was sheer mischief to claim that he has acquired all properties on a street.

I can confirm this fact.T A orji actually acquired the entire properties in the street where he had his house and renamed the street "Ochendo Close".He did this by buying the houses at outragious and irressistably amounts which the owners of such properties could not resist. This man is a thief and deserves to be prosecuted after his tenure.
Abians rise up and vote out ochendo in the next election.

Not as bad as Ngwaland where kidnapping is rampant. grin

These Ngwa people are always upset about this so called marginalization that they suffer under Orji

Tukpaa ahu, EzeUche hnwe la a ma meera yi. Talks of marginalization have more to do with politics than development (although, development is still also part of it). Have knowledge on something first, before you open your mouth to talk.

Men you talk like an idiot quite alot. Kidnapping is rampant all over Igboland and some parts of Nigeria, so how is this an Ngwa problem? Are Ngwa people also kidnapping in Imo, Enugu, and other States? And really can you state what positive development that Orji Kalu brought to Abia apart from looting and turning Abia into a refuse dump?

Orji Kalu constructed so many Aba roads during his tenure as governor. The present governor negleted Ngwa people. He has failed to bring development to the town of Aba even tho its the commercial nerve center of d state serving as a source of highest revenue generating city in Abia.

if u succeed in voting him out, who are u going to vote in?
if this man buys a whole street, how are u sure ur own candidate will not buy a whole town?

The 'marginalisation' of the Ngwa is political.  There is no part of Abia state that can claim to have benefitted economically from the current thief in government and his predecessor.

I was in Aba and Umuahia barely 2 weeks ago, and i can state 'authoritatively', in my Ngwa accent, that the whole of Abia state, quite honestly is nothing but a putrid Poo h.o.l.e!

lol. . .The governor has a special adviser each for print and electronic media.

I bet he also has one for manual media. . . town criers etc.

^^^ I tell u. D tin is tiring, to say the least. Just came into Aba some hours ago, the place is changing for the worse. The first news I heard was kidnappers has kidnapped one Nkwubuego, a steel magnet. The same tin in ABSU, all the banks in Okigwe are closed down right now as robbers attacked ALL (about 7) of them unopposed, using DYNAMITE on GTB's safe! The ATMs in the school are now helpless and some students now travel to Umuahia to use the ATM! In the school, Baggers and co are freely shooting their way about the school. The whole state is turning on its head.

Just last week,my friend who is a lecturer with Abia Poly in Aba was kidnappd & a ransome of N500,000 was paid b4 his release. Kidnapping is gradually returning in to the state despite d presence of Mopol and Anti Terrorism Police men at almost all d roads in Aba.It is now evident that the present govt in Abia lacks the ability to fight kidnapping in d state. The govt needs to create jobs for thousands of Abia youths who graduate from different tertiary institutns every year. They govt needs to rehabilitate ailing industries like Golden Guinea brewries,Ogwe Poultry farm,Enyimba Hotels Aba etc to create jobs for our youths.
