@ Poster
I need your candid advice on this big challenge: I cruise a '90 civic 1.6 GL with auto trasmission ( I guess this oldie may not be scannable?) It accelerates fairly well, but during decceleration, it does not down shift normally and the transmission tends to 'grip' the engine almost to a stalling point- barely releasing it at about 300 rpm. What is the cause, and what EXACTLY do i need to repair/replace so i can advise my mechanic? Thx!

Note: Our Diagnostic Device will not read your 90 civic 1.6 GL with auto trasmission.

Salesauto, thx for your response! On startup, my tachometre [engine speed gauge] reads somewhere between 900 & 1200 rpm - tho i'm planning to get my carburettor specialist adjust and regulate this anomaly. But on the average, it stabilizes @ about 1000 on idle.
Is it true that it's always advisable to replace faulty parts on honda cars when they begin to misbehave, especially the transmission - if it's auto - rather than attempt to repair?

You are welcome, it depend on the faulty parts and the level of fault, some fault are repairable, after repair, it will function normal, but some, it is usually better to change, some cars are selective in term of transmission oil, like e.g Nissan Murano.

Try and use filling station oil for your transmission for better performance.

I actually use Mobil ATF 220 transmission fluid as the lubricant. Of late, the thing has worsened: when trying to slow down, it grips the engine and have to shift gear to neutral to prevent the engine from being stopped. Then I engage drive and it accelerates normally. What do I need to quickly fix in the transmission system before it finally beaks down? Thx once again.

Sounds like your issue's more mechanical than electrical.

When last was your AFT changed? I would drain it, and refill. If the drained fluid's brown or grey, then you have burnt clutch bands within the transmission, and the cheapest alternative would be to replace the tranny with a known good used one.

Siena, thx ever so much for your input here. Av really been looking forward to your contribution in this matter. The lub was changed a couple of months ago but i notice some kind of wetness around the tranny casing. I'm yet to ascertain the source.
@Salesauto, appreciate your response. Will give you a call as soon as i'm around to do a thorough check up on the car. Keep it up!
@Siena, av not been seeing a lot of your contributions lately - particularly on German rides which I kind of fancy myself. Really planning to lay my hands on one of these Audis pretty soon, the A4 being my favrit tho'. Let me also request for your email addy here. Need your candid advice on career in the auto industry. Would really appreciate your positive response.
Cheers!

To anyone with current info: how much do you think it will cost to replace the tranny of this car under review - to save myself the trouble of recurrent repairs? What's the present selling price of this component in the auto parts market? Thank y'all.
