MARCH FOR CLEANER ENERGY
On July 24, 2016, at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia more than 10,000 people marched to issue certain demands to current and future national leaders in the USA. Prominent amongst their demands were to ‘Stop Dirty Energy’ and ‘Quickly and Justly Transition to 100% Renewable Energy”. The march was endorsed by more than 900 environmental, health, political, labor, indigenous, social justice, faith and student organizations from all 50 states. Here are some reasons why we think this march was important:

Climate Change

By continued use of dirty fuels (coal, firewood, etc.) as source of energy, we are not only fueling our lives, but climate change as well. Increased amounts of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases have caused the global average temperature toincrease by 0.76 degrees Celsius since 1850.
2015 was the warmest year on record with an anomaly of 1.62oF.
In Nigeria for example, there have been several complaints of increased temperatures, little or no rain, desertification, etc., which has caused serious social and economic challenges such as conflict over land, grazing rights, and so on.
As a matter of fact, Nigerians have modified Big Shaq’s song. MANS HOT NOW!

Air Pollution
Exposure to indoor air pollution from cooking alone causes the premature deaths of an estimated 4 million people annually from lung cancer, cardiovascular disease, pneumonia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, as well as ill-health and the loss of productivity among millions more. In developing countries, the major sources of cooking fuels remain solid biomass, coal and firewood. Reducing air pollution will help us all breathe easier.
These are just a few impacts of dirty fuels on the world at large. This is why KiakiaGas Limited is working determinedly hard, to lead the energy transition for Africa to cleaner energy sources. With several initiatives such as the Gaspreneur scheme, VoteLPG, etc., and in collaboration with citizens, businesses, governments, and non-profit groups worldwide, we are calling for and working towards reductions in CO2 emissions to halt further change.
As part of your commitment to a cleaner Nigeria, and a more sustainable world at large, we welcome you to MARCH.
Happy New Month from all of us at KIAKIA GAS LIMITED.
