Deaths In FUOYE? by ElixirDavid(m): 10:42pm On Mar 06, 2018
It was chaos earlier today on the Oye campus of Federal University Oye Ekiti, Ekiti State. The war began between the students and the bike men, who were also supported by the indigenes of Oye town.
It was this morning we gathered that a Head of Department was physically and emotionally brutalised by some commercial motorcyclists. The SUG Vice President, Com. Bisiriyu Ayorinde (Ayodinho) was also slapped, when he tried to intervene.
This serious offence against personality and emotion, was retaliated via a seemingly chaotic protest. Students were sent out of the university's Main Auditorium, to come out and show solidarity. Although, those students in the auditorium were only offering GST 203, which was fixed for 10:00am to 12:00pm. Classes were halted.
Motorcyclists had long been extorting students with impunity. Now, the students are more than ready to face them at all cost.
Indigenes brought out charms, hunting guns, stones (in bags), and bottles to fight the students. Are they goats?
The every-five-days Oye market was raided too. Stalls and goods were destroyed. Some goods were also stolen, while many were displaced. Bikes were burnt, spoiled beyond repair, and about 10 vehicles were destroyed at Oye-Egbo junction of Oye-Ekiti. It was a bad omen for the owner of a new Hyundai car. What a pity!
Consultations were made, The SUG president, Com. Fasakin Taiwo Emerald, and his executive team went to see the king. The Oloye of Oye too might have made verdicts on the matter or not. The DSA (Dr. Malomo), and an executive from the national body of SUG, also addressed the students this noon in a police van at FUOYE junction. Soldiers in the Nigerian Army too were there. The Police (Division unknown), also unleashed tear gases, which was a minus on the students' side. A boy miraculously escaped a giant stone, which was blindly or purposely fired at him. He could have been hospitalised now.
An immediate mid-semester break had been declared. Students are advised to go to their various homes, move in groups, sleep in groups, and try as much as possible to avoid clashes with indigenes. After the address, DJ Holex was also called to do his job.
Should the university continue this way?
Casualties from the student's side were recorded, but no deaths.
