For Mr. Aigboche Akpsubi, last year’s edition of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup Championship, tagged Nigeria 2009, is one event that will linger in his mind till his last breath.

On that fateful day last October, the Edo State born civil servant was heading home from his Apapa, Lagos office when he decided to watch the Nigeria-Germany match at a football viewing centre. And there, he came face to face with death.

The incident happened close to his residence at Magodo in Lagos. He was with a friend at the viewing centre when a gang of armed bandits stormed the place. In an attempt to save his life, Akpasubi took to his heels as he sighted the robbers. That act nearly caused him his life. He recently narrated his story to Daily Sun.

“I had just closed from work on the fateful day. Sometimes, we close late, because we’re always on alert since our schedule involves search and rescue. So, after the day’s work, I left my office for home in Magodo area, around Berger.

“On that particular day, there was a match between Nigeria and Germany. It was the opening match of the Nigeria 2009 Under-17 World Cup. So, because traffic was heavy, we got around our area rather late. And there was a viewing centre where we could just branch off and watch the match. So I invited my friend to join me so we could sit there and chat over issues.

“I remember that, in that match, Nigeria was initially down by three goals. At that moment, everybody was bored. But thank God we later equalized. When my friend later came, we sat outside. Then all of a sudden, we just heard, ‘all of you lie down!’
“Because we were outside, I attempted to flee from the scene because there was a gate into the compound. It is a wide compound. As I attempted to run, the robbers shouted, ‘Stop! Stop!’, but I refused to stop. That was when they shot me and it entered my right buttock. There and then, I fell.

“As I lay in the pool of my own blood, I was looking at some people standing outside the gate and I was begging them to please help me. But I didn’t know that they were the people that conveyed the robbers there on their motorbike. Little did I know that they were standing there waiting for the robbers to finish their operations so that they could take them away. So the men came, pounced on me and collected all that I had on me, including my cell phone.

It's because of things like these that i support easy access to legit firearms in Nigeria but my fellow Nigerians seem to be totally against it.If this dude was armed, perhaps the outcome would have been different.If a handful of individuals where this incident took place were armed, those thieves wouldn't dare.That hole in his body looks gory and disturbing!

The thread title's misleading though - I honestly thought he was held down, while someone else brought out a Black & Decker, and literally drilled a hole in his buttock.

1) If you believe he is going to kill or serious harm you anyway.

2) If you believe the gun is fake.

3) If you judge he is jittery, and you feel running to a crowded place will scare him to run away.

4) If you are in a crowd and feel if you ran, everyone would also run and the robbers will not know who to target.
