Making the switch shouldn't really affect traffic, it should only filter out junk traffic. Couple with the fact that your http will still work.

It does affect traffic, as old index (that is, http) is deindexed, before the new https is indexed, so a site may lose ranking and thus traffic.

And it takes quite sometime before Google fully index all contents, especially for sites with huge collection of pages.

To help reduce the loss of traffic, try redirect your http to https through your DNS settings

Obviously, HTTPS is the future! And migrating early is recommended, as the earlier the better and loss of traffic is temporary.

Sure did! Number of junk traffic have drastically reduced.

Finally, I can recommend HTTPS to anyone that cares for better ranking and traffic from Google, while the initial impact may be discouraging, but longterm even is worth it. Our site traffic has gone over the roof this month and Alexa ranking from 3m to 500k with a month. Could this be the impact of the switch, or was there a Google update?

I did a switch to https, my traffic deduced from a whooping 25,000 dailyviews to 7,000 views per day. Its close to a month but its beginning to stabilize too. Bit by bit though.
