Hi Nairalanders,

I don't know if this is a general thing or just me. I find myself reluctant to ask a lady out if she's not from my tribe. I know this sounds ridiculous in this present age but consciously or unconsciously I find it difficult making a move even when all the green light is there.
What makes it even more pathetic, I'm more attracted to other tribes.

What should I do? Should I stick to my tribe or find a way to overcome this silliness. (silly cos we should be past tribalism by now).

Mature responses please. Constructive criticism is allowed.
Thanks

It doesn't really matter

MARRIAGE is between two FAMILIES not TWO PEOPLE.

LOVE is where you find it

In nigeria it matters o... because 1st 10years of marriage you would NEED tutorials on many things from others in your family who MARRIED before you.

But with strong LOVE, you both can conquer ethic constraints and break the system... it happens BUT both of you must be involved o

Igbos are money conscious.
Edos are promiscuous (Italian connection)
Yorubas are fetish skull miners.
Fulanis are killers.
Hausas are terrorists.

These are well known albeit fallacious stereotypes.
But at the end of the day, it boils down to individual personalities, not communal characteristics.

Tribe matters to me. I don't think I can date any girl in a certain area from the north.

Just being honest.

I grew up in a multicultural family, father is Edo while mum is Borno with a lot of relatives from other tribes so it has an influence.

I don't know about others but it matters to me. I can't marry a Yoruba lady. In fact, I consider Yoruba people annoying.

To me it matters o. I don't like anything that will stress me, adapting to a new culture, learning new language, learning to cook new type of food, my kids answering weird names, my partner speaking language i don't understand, i will feel lost, like a total stranger etc.

You forget one factor eliminates all these fears... Love. If you love them, you'd some how make it work though.

Personally, I think tribe matters, although it all boils down to individuals.
There's much ethinic segregation going on in this country that makes one fear loving or marrying from another tribe.
Much work, much efforts, much convinctions, much sacrifices needs be made to avert crisis in such inter tribal marriage.
@OP, go with what you believe and suit your mind because you already establish the doubt in your mind, anything contrary to that might not make you feel fulfilled.

Of course. What I mean is love (genuine love) makes the challenges worth it.
But wisdom must be applied so you don't have much challenges to contend with.

Perhaps cos you don't know your own strength. Only you carry the dna of wazobia in you meaning you could easily interact with any Nigerian. But then again it could be other factors, zodiac, temperament, trust issues (lol) etc. But you'd mix easily in any 9ja circle.
