The Chief HardWorker on Oil and Gas:

The discovery of oil in Oloibiri, Bayelsa on Jan 15th,1956 by Shell Darcy, changed the economic mainstay of Nigeria. The Cocoa, groundnut, yam, palm oil and other cash crops that were Nigeria's major export materials were wholesomely relegated to the background owing to the discovery of oil. The boom of seventies, eighties and early nineties birthed the heavy dependence on oil by our economy.

Anambra is home to notable natural reserves (Tin, clay,Iron ore, Crude oil and several others).

The Aguleri Otu Oil field was first struck in the area about 50 years ago by SAFRAP, now TOTAL Plc. Government after government, these "oils" continued to lie beneath our soil for decades until the government of Former Gov Peter Obi attracted Former President Jonathan to Anambra State to Commission the Orient Petroleum Refinery OPR in Aguleri Otu which led to the pronouncement of Anambra as an oil producing state in August 30, 2012.

During the inaugural speech of Gov Willie Obiano at his swearing in ceremony on the 17th day of March 2014, he mentioned Oil and Gas as a Pillar that will help drive other key sectors the economy and promised that in his administration, Anambra will attain her full potentials in the oil and Gas sector.

Few weeks after his swearing in, there were some attacks to the Aguleri Otu people by the Ibaji people of Kogi state over claims of the Oil well. From the Enugu front, they kept laying claims to the ownership of the oil fields. Several attempts were made by Gov Willie Obiano to restore peace amongst the warring people but by then, they were abortive. This necessitated a comprehensive understudying of the immediate and remote causes of these perennial attacks.

The governor discovered through the report that previous governments were unable to clearly demarcate the Anambra boundary with Kogi and Enugu, and again, since the Aguleri Otu oil fields were not accessible through the Aguleri hinterland, one must go through Enugu and Kogi States (A journey of 4hours) before landing at Aguleri Otu. This singular reason made our neighboring States to start laying claims to the ownership of the fields.

Having identified these problems, the government discreetly ventured into construction of access roads, bridges and others to enable the easy movement to all the oil reserves in Anambra State.

Just few weeks after his inauguration, the Chief Worker flagged off the Construction of Aguleri- Aguleri Otu (Oil Fields) bridge. The 7km Iyiora -Aguleri Otu Road (with bridge), The Umueje - Aguleri Otu Road (with bridge), the 14km road from Umunankwo - Mputu - Ogwuaniocha road with a bridge across the popular Ulasi River, Ihiala LGA and several others.

The Aguleri - Aguleri Otu bridge which measures about 300meters is currently the longest bridge in Southeast Nigeria, and was delivered on a record time of 2years for use! This bridge and road was aimed at uniting both communities which ancestrally was one and it has drastically reduced the journey hour to the oil fields from 4hours to 45Minutes!
This feat before now was deemed impossible owing to the length of the bridge and the terrain thereof but with the undying will of Akpokue, he did it and many imposing infrastructures.

The Iyiora Anam Road and bridge : The idea of this project was to link the oil fields with the rest of Anambra West LGA with the view of linking it through Kogi State to Abuja. The road which measures about 7km with a masterly constructed 180metres of bridge was equally delivered in record time.

The Umueje - Aguleri Otu Road and bridge: This road before now was primarily the basic means of assessing the oil fields. The road was awarded with the accompanying bridge in the view of linking up the Orient Petroleum Resources with Enugu State through Umueje, Ayamelum LGA, Anambra state. The road aspect of it is delivered with about 80% of the work done on the bridge.

Truly, Gov Willie Obiano has demonstrated his burning desire to take Anambra to the next level. Today, no more crises between the communities because Anambra State or visitors to the Orient Petroleum Refinary need not ply through Enugu or Kogi again and this singular resolve of the Anambra State government has saved wanton killings and other criminal activities along this route.

In other to fully develop the gas reserves of the zone, this he did by awarding a 14km of road from the oil fields of Ogwuaniocha to Mputu - Umunankwo and Ihiala LGAs with a bridge through the Ulasi River.

These reserves in Ogbaru LGA are further linked by the governor Chief Willie Obiano through the construction of Umunankwo - Ogwuiele Road leading to the Ogwuikpele Oil reserve basin.

All these efforts are geared towards positioning Anambra State to reap all the benefits as an oil producing state.

Ladies and gentlemen, in a few days from now (17/3/18), the Chief Hardworker, His Excellency, Chief Dr Willie Obiano will be sworn into office to continue his good works for a second term.

Obiano delivers!

See who is talking about decorum, am sure you can't define the meaning. You have to earn your respect before you get it. Sometimes if you don't have sensible things to say you shut up, is not a must you must make a comment.
