Apple Inc have taken over Digital magazine distributor Texture which is described as a Netflix of magazines. to extend its subscription services far beyond music and online storage.



The deal was announced on Monday and that puts the smartphone giant company-Apple in control of the service. Digital magazine distributor Texture reportedly allows readers to scale over articles in more than 200 magazines for just 10Usd per month.



Comparing the company to Netflix which boasts 55 million subscribers in the US alone, I think it not as popular as Netflix but may anytime any day become a very big addition to Apple. The company is yet to disclose how many subscribers it has, but CEO John Loughlin said in an interview back in 2016 that the number of subscribers are in the “hundreds of thousands”- which means that there must have been a major increment in the number of subscribers today.

Apple didn’t disclose how much it paid for the company Texture , which is valued for at least $92 million since it was founded about 10 years ago.



Apple’s Senior Vice President, Eddy Cue said on Monday the company have committed to quality news content and journalism from reliable sources around the world and making use of beautifully designed magazines to engage stories to users.

Unlike most Apple products, Texture will be available on devices powered by Google’s Android software and also in the iPhone and iPad.

Texture is expected to join a list of Apple subscription options that are mastered by the company’s music-streaming service, which already has over 37 million subscribers.

Purchasing of additional storage in iCloud services will be available to user who have exceeded the maximum free limit of 5 gigabytes.

The magazine distributor had been owned by investors which includes Condé Nast, Hearst, Meredith, Rogers Media and KKR before Apple took over.
