Danry Vasquez, a professional baseball player, has been dropped by his team after horrific CCTV footage shows him repeatedly hitting his girlfriend in a violent attack.

Footage released by police in Corpus Christi, Texas, shows Vasquez attacking the woman on a staircase in Whataburger Field.

In the disturbing video which took place in 2016, the woman is knocked to the floor as the 24-year-old hits her and pulls her hair.

Vasquez, an outfielder, was spared a jail sentence for the crime and the case against him was dismissed after he completed the terms of a plea deal. This included taking classes and paying a fine.

His girlfriend also refused to press charges and they are now engaged. However, the Venezuelan national has been released by his current team, the Lancaster Barnstormers of Pennsylvania, since the footage emerged. .

Vasquez was a player for the Corpus Christi Hooks at the time of the incident. He was released by the Astros and suspended indefinitely by Major League Baseball when he was arrested.
