So everyday you wake up to go to work you always think of that idiot at work who isn't your boss but makes life a living hell for you. im here to tell you today that your prayer has been answered and hopefully after reading this youll have the courage to say 'shut the f**k up' to that dominant colleague of yours.

who is a dominant co-worker? really, are you asking me that question? okay let me answer you; A dominant person has this attribute that helps the company to move forward but they tend to use this energy to bring fellow co-worker down. their attribute can consist of working at a fast pace, talking bluntly, cutting in other peoples conversation, they take every little advantage they see to command or have authority over their fellow worker. They are bold, confident and DEFINATELY NOT YOUR BOSS!!

SORRY I ACCIDENTLY PUBLISHED IT WHILE TYPING ILL KEEP TYPING THE REST KEEP ON READING......

So my question is, do they really know they're overbearing? yes they do 2% of them actually just want to make things get done with immediate effect while the remaining 98% are just there to make life a living hell for you.

So how do you overcome them? well start by recognising that they are not your superiors and definitely not the ones that gave you that job or employed you and make this known to them. For example I have this colleague at work who tries this shit with me and kept telling me to do stuff and commanding me and bossing me around, it got to a point I called him in public and told him 'hello, can you calm down and talk to me like a colleague and not my boss cos you're not? ' he looked at me as though he was mesmerized and still under shock, soo surprised that I had put him in that position of inconvenience.

Question them. that would put them in their place and lets them know that they don't have the final say. make them know that they cant have thing their way . ask them why? what? who said that? why should I? can you stop im still talking? they'll begin to realise that they have no power over you or no longer be able to put you in their small box. I've tried this tips and they surprisingly work . I just love to see the expressions on their face when I fire back at them.

Stop them So you're in a meeting an this dude keeps interrupting you as you're giving a brief, you have to react quickly but in a polite way so that you wont create an awkward environment for yourself. tell him or her ' Tom I know you've done this project before but its my turn now and I will appreciate it if you keep quiet and let me deliver what i'm here for , stop interrupting me. I think this message is clear. doing this gaining your courage back and also freedom.

Remember that when you're doing this you have to be prepared to take up any responsibility that comes after it. don't let anyone depress you at work or make life unbearable for you. life troubles is enough! know your human rights and don't let anyone weigh you down .

That was a mistake, corrected. Not making it up. Experience. Thanks for spotting that out .

Just like MTN, they are everywhere you go. If you probe further, you would be surprised to discover that they are actually very weak. They just pull those psychological stunts to make up for their troubled souls. Whichever way, I don't like having encounter with them

When I'm around a domineering person, I just simply ignore them. Domimeering people thrive on attention. Starve them of that attention and watch them get confused, it always works. My time is too precious to be quarreling, arguing or planning to handle shitty people who want others to feed their ego.

The BEST solution is to shun them.them plenty for every work place.it's if you continue putting up with their excesses that they will keep misbehaving.if they interrupt your conversation uninvited, remind them that the conversation has nothing to do with them

@ OP

Believe you me that you don't know whom a "dominant co-worker" is. What you described there is a "domineering co-worker." How to handle domineering co-worker is by being both an efficient colleague and a libertarian.

Unlike a domineering person, a self-effacing co-worker that dominates a work place is a bliss to have. While the latter dominates through intelligence, meekness, humility and tolerance (and in most cases beneficence) and is highly respected by all and sundry who're sane and sound, the former constitutes nuisance with his arrogance, rudeness, conceitedness and self-centeredness (if he's lucky to be truly intelligent, his colleagues will always fear him but never respect him).

Use your creative and working skill to always give solution to his low graded solution. What do I mean , profound solution that's higher than his , when next you talk he will keep quiet and listen ...

Do that and thank me later

This is total rubbish, a dominant worker knows his or her boundary. This is just bias and totally false information. You can only be intimidated by a dominant worker if you don't know what you are doing as your job description, got there through connection etc. My friend step up your game, read more and do research on your job, improve yourself and get updated and stop complaining.

Well, what I do is I just ignore such. If he is a fast-paced Baba, leave him to do all the work and have your job even. I cannot let somebody carry his own private wahala to give me inferiority complex undecided

From my experience, I can CONFIDENTLY tell you that you have no idea what this topic is about. You're probably having it all your way for now, or you really think/believe you are. What the OP described up there has nothing to do with the real abilities of the people in question, but an irritating negative work habit. I'll be damned if I'm wrong cool

Not just co-workers get such attitude even those directly down ur line can be provocative but ability to put then in their place matters a lot.
I have this lady I directly employed in my place of work, though the management were not supportive of her employment but I got her in for some reasons. One she looks Godly, active and diligent but with third class. This is the reason why they were sceptical about her employment but I broke the protocol cos of my position. Fast forward to like two years, the direct accountant to the chairman resigned and I recommended this lady for the post. I just realized that she changed just of a sudden due to her present relationship with the chairman. She started taking undue advantage like taking over my work schedules under the excuse that I was busy.
When I realized that her overbearing is becoming too much I have to challenge her before the chairman and made her know what I have done for her and why she must not joke with me without minding the consequences. The chairman was surprised and she wanted to talk but the man shut her up. Then things became normal, everyone was amazed. She then became sober and work continues but due to my relationship with the wife of chairman cos the company is jointly owned by them, I reported everything that was going on to her cos I know she must be planning something within. I told the woman I don't think I can work with her again. The woman was surprised cos she told me the hubby never explained anything to her. I was surprised to see the lady at my table the second day pleading that I shouldn't have taken the matter to madam that she doesn't mean all she has been doing. She pleaded I should forgive and forget. That was how things became normal again. We should never be intimidated cos of anything, we should be proactive and act wisely cos many dangerous people are outside there.

The best way to deal with them is by giving them a dose of their own medicine. If they interrupt you, interrupt them too. If they boss you around, do the same to them. I remember telling a co-worker who was bossy to help me buy something outside. Since that day, he never came near me again.
