Being successful as an entrepreneur means being able to predict the future to a degree. You need to see the trends before they hit and reach your customers with the technologies that most interest them.

This means that it is not enough to coast along: No matter how much you know, there's always something new to learn, or a different approach to try. Canny entrepreneurs know that you not only need a strong social media presence, you also need focus: Focus on the right niches for your market and on staying flexible and agile, to take advantage of changing conditions.

To help you grow, seven members of Young Entrepreneur Councilshare some of the most important things young entrepreneurs need to be doing in today’s modern business world to achieve success. Here is what they had to say:

1. Look To Other Industries

Look to other industries outside of your own for insight, new ideas and technology that can be utilized in your sector. Sometimes industries that you would never believe have any cross-commonalities can create the best out-of-the-box solutions. - Ben Weinrib, Eddy Pump Corp.

2. Put Your Best Foot Forward On Social Media

It's important to have your personal social sites completed with accurate and up-to-date information. Whether it be a candidate you're looking to hire, business deal you're aiming to close, or press contact you're pitching, one of the first things they'll do is search for you online. When they do, you want to be putting your best foot forward. - Fan Bi, Blank Label

3. Develop The Right Mindset

Mindset is the single most important thing for entrepreneurs — when they focus on it, they will achieve exponential success and growth in their business. Limiting beliefs and emotional patterns — such as fear of failure, fear of visibility or even fear of success — create glass ceilings. Doing the inner work to reprogram the mind shatters those and the internal shifts ripple out into all areas of life. - Jackie Knechtel, Flow Consciousness Institute

4. Adjust Your Expectations

The entrepreneurs that I interact with tend to have endless ideas and endless energy. Their main friction happens when they expect other essential business contacts to share their enthusiasm and urgency about their ideas, when those contacts tend to be salaried professionals with a whole different agenda and a much more structured, stable environment. - Matt Davies, Powerhouse Brands Consulting

5. Learn To Pivot

Entrepreneurs need to move quickly and learn to pivot in the world of modern business. As the market shifts and as you are striving to validate your product or service, remember to run lean, create the minimum product to get the idea across to consumers, evaluate the response and keep pivoting. It’s a basic principle, but often forgotten. Do not overinvest, and be able to pivot until you're accepted. - Kyle Brown, Sirved Mobile Solutions Inc

6. Be A Lifelong Learner

Take steps towards becoming a lifelong learner. Continuously improve your knowledge in any way that works for you. Start small. A low-effort and high-impact place to start is reading books. A couple of smart book choices will not only help prevent you from wasting time and money on rookie mistakes, they'll inspire and propel you towards growing your business more efficiently and effectively. - Karlo Tanjuakio, GoLeanSixSigma.com

7. See Cross-Collaboration Potential In Different Fields

Achieving success in the competitive business market today requires a combination of creativity and cross-collaboration across fields not typically brought together. Those who can "see" this collaborative potential are often described as "thinking outside the box," but it is often better stated "seeing a natural marriage others have yet to perceive.” - Jason Toranto, Senta Clinic
