The Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (FUNAI), Ebonyi State has elevated five of its academic staff that have distinguished themselves in their various disciplines to the professorial cadre.
The University Governing Council at its 11th Regular Meeting held on Thursday, March 15, 2018 considered the recommendations of its Appointment and Promotion Committee and approved the promotions of the affected staff.
The breakdown of the list shows that Dr. Afam Icha-Ituma was promoted to the rank of Professor with effect from 1st October, 2017. While Dr. P. C. Obidike, Dr. E. N. Anyaegbunam, Dr. Charles N. Okolie and Dr. Nnenna N. Nwosu all were promoted to the rank of Reader with effect from 1st October, 2016.
Meanwhile, the Council at the same meeting also approved the termination of appointment of twenty-seven (27) academic staff with effect from 30th March, 2018. Ten of the affected staff were shown the way out of the university as a result of gross misconduct while the remaining seventeen (17) staff were Graduate Assistants who failed to obtain their Master’s Degree Certificates within the stipulated three (3) years of assumption of duty.
The University Governing Council had at its 6th regular meetings held on 21st December, 2016 resolved that: ‘any Graduate Assistant who does not secure/obtain Master’s degree within three (3) years from the date of assumed duty in the University would have their appointment terminated’.
In a letter dated 21st March, 2018 signed on behalf of the Registrar by Mr. Vitalis Offor, the affected staff were directed to handover all university property in their possessions, including their staff identity cards to their respective Heads of Department before their final exit.
