Buhari’s Two-day Visit To Lagos A Slap On Nigerian Christians – Catholic Bishop by 13Ebisco: 9:43pm On Apr 01, 2018 |
The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Dr. Paulinus Ezeokafor has described President Muhammadu Buhari’s two-day trip to Lagos State during a Christian celebrations as a slap on the face of Nigerian Christians. Ezeokafor stated that for the President to choose Maundy Thursday and Good Friday to visit Lagos showed disrespect for Christians. He insisted that Christianity and Islam were two dominant religions in Nigeria, and should be accorded same level of respect, just as the bishop asserted that President Buhari would not have made the trip if it was a Muslim celebration. The Bishop, who spoke at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral, Awka while delivering his Easter message, said, “Government of Nigeria should always apply the principle of equity and fairness in its appproach to issues of national concern. “President Muhammadu Buhari’s two-day visit to Lagos State to commission a bus-stop on Christians’ most important days was a huge slap on Nigerian Christians. “Those who advised the president to embark on such trip on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday respectively, advised him wrongly. The said trip could have been undertaken after the Easter celebration or any other time.” Ezeokafor said Christianity and Islam were the two major religions in Nigeria and should be accorded equal respect and recognition by the powers-that-be, not giving preferential treatment to one at the detriment of the other. He noted that the Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday were days Christians concentrated on what they believed gave them salvation, even as he described Easter as the greatest feasts in the Christendom. Hide quoted text He however admonished President Muhammadu Buhari to treat every section of the country equally irrespective of religious sentiments. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/04/buharis-two-day-visit-to-lagos-slap-on.html 1 Like

Buhari's ethnic and religious bigotry has made Christian leaders to always find fault in his actions. He caused it upon himself. He couldn't even apologize for causing traffic in Lagos. Kai!! 6 Likes |

Some people are just annoying especially these men of God these days. Did Buhari just decided to go to Lagos or he was invited by the Lagos state government. Before the argument was he only visits Northern states now he visits Lagos on invitation it's a problem. President visits state base on invitation by the state government except on some national issues like security breaches or Federal government wants to site a facility so he has to go there. We know we hate Buhari but some of the criticism is lacking substance I decide not to be part of it. 4 Likes 1 Share |

KenOne: Wisdom is the principal thing. Buhari lacks wisdom. If he had given the invitation a little thought, he would have come to the understanding that the holy week and Easter were very important to the people of God. That would have guided him to take proactive steps of cancelling the visitation till after Easter. What's the big deal? 6 Likes |

KenOne: This is why they labeled Nigerians Animals, even though it should have been some Nigerians. Some Nigerians are lunatics, we come up the the most insane and and irrational argument and we fight over every silly issue and these religious bigots called pastors are the usual culprits. Just imagine within 1 week, we've had, fake award, fake project commissioning, PMB shook hands with a foreigner, but never a Nigerian woman, now, it's another insane rubbish. I really think some Nigerians have mental issues and they need psych intervention. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Right here where I reside, there's traffic and Buhari didn't visit. Road users are the number one cause of traffic. if Buhari didn't bring it to Lagos, commuters would themselves. It seems some clergymen always have something to say recently, particularly since 2015. when we constantly here criticisms with religious intonations, particularly from one side of the divide, even those of us who try to see things above board starts to not take them seriously anymore. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Am a core Catholic but am ashamed of his lordship. Even Jesus Christ went to the farm on Sabath day. Friday is the moslem day of worship, Maybe Buhari should ve come on a Friday as well. 2 Likes 1 Share |

When hate mixes with religion, the result can be catastrophic. Buhari's visit didn't do anything because he was invited by Ambode. If he has failed to show up, the news would be he doesn't visit anywhere aside the North. The fact that u don't like the a person shouldn't make u build a mountain out of an ant hill. To all BMC staff, my comment doesn't mean I like the actions of ur boss, so expect me to blast him when he does something foolish but for this, he didn't do anything wrong. 2 Likes 1 Share |

authehighness: On Wednesdays, it would have been wrong for us who worship the Sun, to have a mere mortal visit our HQ at the EKO Atlantic especially at the time of Equinox , Good Friday would have been the best day as that is the day we celebrate Ascension. 1 Like |

U don't study INSTRUCTIONS before Responding to QUESTIONS.... Always give ur BRAIN higher centres some seconds to align with the Lower centres. Happy Easter 2u |

Oga bishop abeg shift. Didn't civil servants work on Thursday and Friday? Why wouldn't a president work on those days too. The only issue here is that Buhari went to Lagos to party and not work. 1 Like |
