A Professor of Education at the Windsor University, Ontario, Canada, Benedicta Egbo has donated some educational books to the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State as part of her personal social responsibility geared towards contributing to the quality of education in Nigeria.
Entitled “Education and Sustainable Development in 21st Century Nigeria”, the 9-chapter book which was written from an interdisciplinary perspective covers a wide range of topics on education and sustainable development within the context of a competitive 21st century global arena that demands innovation, creativity, adaptive skills, multiple literacies, environmental stewardship and responsibility.

Presenting the books to the university management recently, Professor Egbo who was represented by Dr. Charles Edet noted that the institution was chosen as the recipient of the academic masterpiece because of its emphasis on excellence and integrity in the pursuit of its academic goals, adding that the standard of academic activities in the institution and the progress it has made so far was already known all over the world despite its relatively young age. She also stated that though now based abroad, her academic foundation was laid in Nigeria, hence the need to give back to the country, and urged the university to use the books in producing graduates who can be globally compete. She further maintained that the book was written as a contribution to enthrone positive and transformational change in the Nigerian educational sector.


Receiving the books, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba who was represented at the event by his deputy, Professor Sunday Elom thanked the author for recognizing and choosing the university as one of the recipients of her books, noting the university is putting the right things in place to become a world-class institution.
The Vice Chancellor also stated that with this gesture, Professor Egbo has become an automatic partner and friend of the University, stressing that the books would be availed to staff and students to expose them to the demands of the 21st century education. And added that without proper education foundation, no nation can attain sustainable development.
