At a time when many seek medical treatment in foreign lands, due to poor facilities, poor remuneration and complete lack of care to the medical practitioners in the country.
Many who have the wherewithal could not entrust their lives in the hands of de-motivated health workers in the country thus they seek medical relevance in far-away countries even for the most minute of cases, but unknown to them that within our shores, there exist doctors who give their all for the lives entrusted to them. They do their best possible and the patient goes home singing like a Parrot.
It was one of the Parrots whose songs attracted morblownews and the rest is what you are about to savour
Simply put, the so much talked-about experts abroad are right here in our mist. All we need do is to seek and find them and above all, give them opportunity for them to give us their best.

So before you board that flight, just listen to this trained Economist, a master degree holder in Environmental Resources Management who at present is holding it down successfully in a trade that was once upon a time abandoned to our grannies.

What could he be doing in such a profession? And most interesting is why abandoned the comfort of an air condition office to a moderate space when massage and bone-setting is stock-in-trade

In this series, we bring you, Mr Afun Richard, a Traditional Physiotherapist, known by clients as Doctor Bone and by others as Doctor Peace. Hear him. Excerpt
Good day sir, may we meet you
Dr. Bone: My names are Afun Pere Richard; some people call me Doctor Bone while some call me doctor peace. Basically, I see myself as a traditional physiotherapist.
What is traditional physiotherapy?
Traditional physiotherapy is about taking care of bones, bone settings and things like paralysis which comes in different forms, everything that has to do with bones and nerves. Also things like bone-setting, fracture cases and dislocations. We do setting and with God helping us, in a short space of time the affected person becomes fine.

Dislocation can come in different form, in the hand, in the leg, elbow, wrist and shoulder blades. Also when we say dislocation of the legs, you can talk of femur heads, you can also have dislocation on the knee and on the angle.
What’s your educational qualification?
Dr. Bone: I graduated from Ambrose Ali University as an Economist; I served in Sokoto State in a village called Raba. That was where I did my National Youth Service Corp, NYSC. I also obtained Masters Degree from Lagos State University, LASU, in Environmental Resources Management. But I have been doing this (bone-setting) for the past 18 years.

What’s an Economist doing in bone-setting?
Dr. Bone: Well, I would say, this is more of nature call, like a gift. You know I see myself being very free and fulfilled. It moves me when I see people having pains and I can help them and solve it and by the grace of God, the number of years that I have put in-in this job has helped me to be able to face many difficulties and give treatment on the cases of physical therapy.

So you are making a living from Physiotherapy instead of academics
Dr. Bone: Yes
Any regret
Dr. Bone: No, I don’t have any because everywhere I go my university education has always been an advantage, it has given me my expanded horizon and the tact which I handle cases, such can only be an offshoot of a formal learning. As an Economist going into traditional physiotherapy, it helps me to really know how to manage my business, so it really helps me.

Are you running a specialist hospital
Dr. Bone: Yes, well presently, I have a clinic in Ejigbo, 49 Fadu Avenue. There you have cases of fractures. Fracture can come in any part of the body; it can come on the femur, tibia, fibular humerus, ulna and the radius. All these are different type of fractures, we do the setting and that’s what bone setting is all about. If its dislocation, what we do is, arrange the bone back and then fix the bone in its dislocated part for the person to be ok. It’s just a 5 minutes thing.
Like the shoulder, it cannot take me more than 2 to 3 minutes to solve such a case.
Why do people travel abroad when qualified hands are here
Dr. Bone: I would say, most of the cases that make people fly abroad are complex, complex in the sense that maybe they are not able to do surgery here or maybe they are having cases like stroke and nerve-related problems. So that’s why people fly abroad but basically if one is having somebody like me that by the grace of God, I know what am doing because of the number of years that I put into the practice, 18 years is not a joke there wouldn’t be any need to travel abroad in such an instance.
I have acquired a lot of experience when it comes to bone setting and paralysis. Paralysis can come in different forms like the hand which maybe one or both hands, a stroke case maybe the person is not able to talk, we can help the person to be able to talk, if he or she cannot walk for years, that is our specialty and by the grace of God anywhere in the world I can do that, I can help patient to be able to talk or walk.
Every stroke patient should be able to walk if that person has a very good traditional physiotherapist. Things like stroke demand aggressive therapy, what that means is that one needs to monitor the blood pressure (BP) of that patient before going into the treatment.

As an Expert, at what point should amputation be carried out
Dr. Bone: Amputation has to do with accident cases, for instance, if the case is something they cannot manage, maybe during an accident, the hand is cut off completely, then there is nothing anybody can do, but there are cases where you have to manage the wounds because basically, if the wound is bad, one cannot control the wound, that means they will amputate that leg, hand or that part of the body. But if the wound is being controlled and treated properly then the person can be fine. Once the wound is treated, then the setting can come up and the person will be fine. www.Morblownews.com

Mr Afun Richard
There's nothing as native physio or traditional physiotherapist but a quack simple and short. Don't patronize the service of a quack parading as native physio or traditional physiotherapist. The person must be university & hospital trained in physiotherapy & then licensed by MRTB in order to be designated a Physiotherapist. Anyone patronize the service of this "traditional physiotherapist" is doing so at his own peril and should blame him/herself if anything went wrong. How can a person who does not possess requisite preclinical sciences and clinical knowledge parade self as a healthcare provider? What a country
