Cjrane2: It can be so annoying when we have to ask for the most basic things to be done to make our cities look better! These useless governors and commissioners go abroad at the slightest opportunity, yet they can't think of replicating the grass and tree planting culture they see abroad back home in their states. 5 Likes 1 Share |

To me Enugu State is a sleeping giant, Enugu has the greatest tourism potentials in Southern Nigeria but the government is too blind to tap into it. It's very unfortunate that those rolling hills in Enugu are yet to be connected with cable cars. Enugu have many hills but no hiking clubs, they only do road work to Okpala square and go home. From 9th Mile to Nsukka is dominated by rush green hills but there are no vacation spots around them, though lack of security in Nigeria could be the cause but locals still leave around those hills. The golf course in Enugu cant even hold Enugu Masters Challenge and invite other Igbo cities to participate. Nike Lake is not even advertising digitally, you can stumble on any of their advert banners. Tourism can give Enugu enough money because all the things needed to facilitate it are there, an airport, a lake, hills, malls, universities, educated populace.. but the hotels are not keying into these because blind people in government chose salary over innovative ideas. 15 Likes 1 Share |

Our governors should listen up! Governance is not a tea party. We the citizens are so fuc/king angry and demanding right now and wouldn't accept any person that thinks he can become governor just to feather his family nest, answer 'your excellency' and make a name for himself! That was in the past! Governance of today is more than just paying salaries, clearing gutters (that's when they're arssed to do it), and junketing abroad every couple of weeks on the excuse of looking for the ever elusive 'foreign investor'! Anyone that thinks he can be governor but isn't prepared to be innovative and think outside the box should be prepared to receive the sharp end of my tongue! 7 Likes 1 Share |

Anambra State government is environmentally handicapped You see people excavating literite beside erosion prone areas government officials act like its none of their businesses. You See people dregding sands beside the Niger River and blocking the road with sand dunes, ANSG will not even be bothered about the ugly development. You See pigs and piglets take siesta at New Market Road, Old Mkt, Moore Street, Okwei, Bida and all adjoining streets in your economic capital, you think making noise about winning election is better. You visit Nnewi and see human and environmental disaster waiting to happen due to unregulated commercial activities and lack of government oversight, you keep straight face. Anambra State still allow indiscriminate pasting of posters and defacing of public places, they are yet to force people to share flyers and handbills: maybe Catholics and Anglicans the two sacred cows in Anambra State are behind the giant posters on public places, so government don't want to ruffle their feathers. You go to Anambra State and see rickety signposts by he roadsides distorting street views, they are mostly rusty and pose threat to public safety. The old NITEL wires are still there like cobwebs in Onitsha THERE IS NO TOURISM WITHOUT A DECENT ENVIRONMENT 12 Likes 1 Share |

AnambraDota:True words! But then,it is a Nigerian malady and a fall out of the crude nature of our politics. A portion of the blame also goes to the citizens. For instance, development and performance are hardly key factors and considerations in our politics and governance. Starting from conception to declaration of interest, buying nomination forms (at cut throat prices),expensive campaigns and the basic beclouding emotive out-pours called tribalism and sectional interests (both in the federal and even within our states) the underlying motives are hardly noble. So at the end of the day we end up with elected officials: 1.Who are least qualified mentally and otherwise for the rigors of governance in the 21st century. 2.Who are not motivated for the greatest good for the greatest number 3.Who are entrapped by chauvinistic factors long before they emerge. 4.Who assemble government officials, appointees and key functionaries who were employed and appointed purely for political settlement, parochial purposes and never on the basis of their quality and qualification for the posts they occupy. This particular factor plays out mostly in the first tenure of governors. For instance, just like someone mentioned above, the sit-at-home by IPOB exposed the deplorable state of our roads and streets. We still have sand dunes on the shoulders of the roads. The gutters are still open and largely a safety risk. The curbs, traffic islands and pavements were all broken in several places and in dire need of repairs and repainting. There are uneven bushes and shrubs both in the medians and at street corners.Flowers and trees planted were usually stampeded to death by pedestrians crossing the roads haphazardly. There are many low hanging cables, damaged poles, damaged vehicles and all manner of unsightly materials still giving our streets the third world look. The duties of the various ministries of environments goes beyond hustling to corner the contract for supply of incinerators, trash bins and the likes. Paying attention to all these seemingly little details should be the koko.Getting some of these little thngs sorted can make a massive difference. This remains the magic of Kigali. On security. Why are our villages and hinterlands with just some raggedly vigilantes more secured and devoid of crimes better than the cities where we have seemingly better equipped security outfits? This is where the current structure and evil document called the 1999 constitution apply. In all,we all must ensure to do things differently when and if the leadership of our region falls into our hands. Ndewo nu. 3 Likes |

Bede2u:Leadership qualities are not hidden. We have had people who served and lived up to their expectations and profiles. Oby Ezekwesili in Budget Office. Aruma Oteh in Sercurity and Exchange Commission. Ngozi in Ministry of Finance. Soludo as CBN Governor. Dora in NAFDAC.Barth Nnaji in Ministry of Power. Dr Adesina made Ministry of Agriculture look like the new rave in town! Many other examples abound. The basic denominator with all the aforementioned is that their qualities and abilities were known long before they were called to serve in different capacities. None of the aforementioned had remarkable wealth before called to serve in politics or appointments. Education and exposure were their weapons. Comparing Sullivan and T.A Orji is a misnomer. They had varied and opposite dynamics both in family name and background, monthly allocations while they were governors and legacies afterwards. Sullivan was born into a political and elite family. T.A Orji was a cobbler and a nonentity when compared to Chime. And yes, again, based on track records,we can deduce each person's abilities to perform in office. 2 Likes |

DanielOc:a.The need for inner street roads was already heavily emphasized here in the past pages. The consensus was that Enugu stands out given the prime condition of inner street roads. Even the current underachieving regime of Gburugburu is still constructing more.We appeal to all governors to buckle up on that. Onitsha,Awka and Owerri will appreciate more with better inner street roads. b.The need to enact legislation that will legally compel landlords in our cities to repaint their houses within a specified time frame, say once in 4 or 5 years was also heavily emphasized. But don't you think sticking to a single color will look boring and common? Refer to the attached photos of colorful cities. Variety is the spice of life. c.Enforcement will always remain the key until our people attain a certain level of civilization to appreciate and value aesthetics and doing things better. d. Most of the major roads were already dualized in most Igbo cities in the past 10 years. In Enugu (Chime Avenue,Ziks Avenue,Agbani Road etc). Awka (Ziks Avenue,Esther Obiako road,Greenwood avenue etc). I know very little of Owerri,Umuahia and Asaba. More can still be done and i believe they are cogent. e. Lagos state has a LAGOS SIGNS AGENCY (LASSA) that regulate the installation of signs, pasting of posters and all form of activation. This agency is a cash cow! Trust me i know them well! Plateau State used to have Jos Metropolitan Development Board that effectively regulate these things. We can understudy and apply these in ways they apply to us. There are lots of derelict signs and installations littered all over our cities.Evidently,no regulation against indiscriminate pasting of posters and erection of signs exist in any of the Igbo states including Delta.I stand to be corrected. 7 Likes

Handsomegod: Excellent post Bro! It couldn't have been better said. The problem with our cities isn't exactly lack of ideas, it is a determined reluctance of our leaders to bequeath decent cities in these states. On tarring inner cities, the state government can coordinate with property owners and landlords to work out a formula for financial contribution to do those street with direct labor. If the State Governments set aside a fraction of their Capital Budgets to do inner street gutters and paved roads via direct labor, these streets will all be paved within 4 years. I know Ebonyi state funded direct labor government agencies for Abakaliki inner streets for about 3 years and it helped transform the city. If Ebonyi state, which is the poorest SE state could do it, then why can't the others? Anambra has OCHA brigade, Enugu has City Beautification agency or something like that, Abia has another group that collect taxes for them. The question is: i, WHY CAN'T THESE AGENCIES PULL DOWN EVERY ILLEGAL STRUCTURE OR ILLEGAL SIGN BOARDS IN THE CITIES / STATE? ii, WHY CAN'T THESE YOUNG PEOPLE BE MOBILIZED TO PLANT TREES AND FLOWERS ALONG ALL MAJOR ROADS IN THE CITIES WHERE THEY OPERATE? iii, WHY CAN'T THESE GROUPS BE TRAINED AND EMPOWERED WITH BASIC ROAD CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT AND FUNDED EVERY YEAR IN THE STATE BUDGET TO CONSTRUCT GUTTERS AND INNER STREETS IN ALL THE CITIES? The only reason they are not doing the above is that the various state governor DO NOT CARE ABOUT A DECENT ENVIRONMENT IN THEIR CITIES. I must quickly add that some Governors have done better than others in removing illegal structures, sweeping streets and planting flowers & trees. Honestly, Some of our cities look like piggeries. It's not as though the governors are unaware of these issues, but they have decided not to emphasize them to their various Commissioners. Thus these Commissioners just sit in big air-conditioned offices and do next to nothing to transform the environment in the cities inside the state. If the Governors daily queried their Commissioners "Why aren't trees and flowers planted along major roads and roundabouts? Why aren't proposals made to banks to beautify specific flyovers / open parks and the banks or organization can exclusively place their signboards in that area and will not be taxed for 15 - 20 years if they maintained those areas. I personally have inside knowledge that Sullivan Chime constantly harassed his commissioners about refuse dumps etc and they got into the habit of clearing them. Individuals who violate environmental codes by erecting illegal sign boards or buildings are penalized by immediately pulling those structures down and sending the bill for the demolition exercise to the responsible individual or company to pay to the state or have some of their assets impounded. Other African countries have perfected the art of using their own internal government direct labor agencies to plant trees and flowers and do city roads and inner streets. We must stop awarding contracts for streets and use direct labor of government agencies to do the job. We can get independent private agencies to audit and report to the government on status and quality of the jobs executed. We truly cannot afford to do inner streets with big contracts. It must be direct labor through State ministry of works. We have to begin to impress on our governors that we deserve decent cities like they see abroad. The culture of treating us as pigs by forcing us to live in pig-like environments called cities should stop for good. 8 Likes 1 Share

Netflix International has acquired its first movie from Nigeria. The streaming giant on Friday said it has picked up the world rights to 'Lionheart'. The movie is the directorial debut of Genevieve Nnaji. Ms Genevieve Nnaji has remained Africa's highest paid Movie Star. She is the most endorsed woman in Africa movie scene with no noise making drama attached to her name. Her production, Road To Yesterday got a 2016 AMVCA nomination 2 weeks after its release. Her directorial debut, Lionheart becomes the first original Netflix film from Nigeria. I am super proud of Genevieve Nnaji and I am very happy for Nigeria entertainment industry. This Is a big win for Nollywood. This victory shows you what is possible if you give your best to any venture. Genevieve Nnaji’s ‘Lionheart’ is the first Nigerian movie bought by Netflix. She is a pacesetter and she deserves our accolades. Acknowledge Her. 3 Likes

I have been away from this forum for a while and it is good to see Ndi Igbo show a passion for our homelands within and outside the five states in SE. We must reverse the current trend in Igbo land where there is a sustained outflow of resources from Igbo land. The ultimate saviour of Igbo land will be independence from the clutches of Nigeria because Nigeria is designed to emasculate the Igbo at home unless they seek opportunities from elsewhere. Most of the graduates and young men, who really are the back bone of any society, are leaving in droves in search of opportunities and it is only a matter of time before we end up as a society for the elderly. Florida is reputed as an elderly society but they have an enormous industry in tourism which brings in endless funds but we are not in that position. All the airports in the north are designated as international airports, while Owerri, the de-facto number four airport is still a local airport. Enugu airport is still number 6 closely behind Kano despite the closure to traffic last year. There are opportunities around us and we need to harness them for growth. 1. We already have a proven market of at least 30 million, extending to 60 million or more if you include our immediate catchment area so we must strive to maintain this market and expand. To make this workable, government must invest aggressively in inter connecting ring/loop highways and comprehensive rail networks. 2. To make Enugu airport thrive as an international hub, the region must come together and float our own airline. The airline should make technical stops in Abuja and Lagos and also extend services to Port Harcourt to maximise profits with Local connecting flights to Asaba and Owerri. When we grab a big share of the market, it will force other airlines to use Enugu as well and our tourism industry will open up as well. 3. To make sure that both the Onitsha and Owerrinta or Obuaku or Oguta River ports work, we should also float a shipping line and waterways maintenance company. 4. The individual states must have R&D or innovation centres properly funded to carry out research in household equipment, software and apps development, aviation and energy developments. Apple’s worth is approaching $1 Trillion today, Apple is richer than Nigeria! You can imagine if we are able to develop an App that brings in $40 - $50 million a year. We should have our own home made TVs, refrigerators, cookers, ACs etc by now. We have the talents to accomplish those simple tasks. 5. Most of our cities are already laid out in reasonable grid system, therefore we should be thinking of developing a major gas supply line to pipe our abundant gas to homes. This will create hundreds of thousands of jobs. If we are able to make just $10 per household per month from about 10 Million households excluding industrial users, that is at least $1.2 billion right there. Osisioma industrial area of Aba is already being supplied with gas so it is not impossible to achieve. 6. Float our own civil engineering construction companies to do our own rail tracks and roads and to also bid for federal government jobs. We don’t need Julius Berger or the Chinese for those. We only need them to build one Kilometre of rail tracks for us to serve as training for our own in house engineers who will take over and complete our projects. The crux of the matter is that we need to find a way to exist as a country within a country. 9 Likes 1 Share |

The poser below was Chief Nnia Nwodo's backlash against the status of Igbos vis-a-vis IPOB as against what obtains when it concerns other regions. His words were direct and should provoke every Igbo man and indeed all men of conscience still left in this contraption. Let us chew and ruminate on those disclosures until it drives us. One Nigeria has multiple meanings depending on the region it applies to per time. This qualifies as the State of the Union address to all Igbos. [center] [b]" Fulani herdsmen and their sponsors, Meyetti Allah move about freely reeling out new threats, occupying Southern and Middle Belt farms forcibly with the law enforcement agents either aiding them or intentionally looking away. Churches are invaded, priests killed yet no one is arrested. Thousands are killed, thousands are rendered homeless, no one cares. IDPS are established only when the displaced come from a favoured section of the country. "Now, they contemplate Operation Python Dance 3 without dealing with the carnage of Operation Python dance 2 where UN rules of engagement were flagrantly violated. Who won’t be angry under these circumstances?" “Boko Haram loot, plunder, kidnap but the government negotiates with them spending unappropriated and undisclosed sums, yet IPOB is proscribed for just speaking up. Arewa youths spoke treason and were defended by Governors and treated with privilege. “No wonder our security chiefs are appointed on the basis of where they come from. Any Igbo who is not angry at the situation in the country today must have his head reexamined.” “Here are young people described as terrorists for daring to speak out in the face of degradation, marginalization and inhuman treatment. The provocation, double standards, and subjection to servitude far outweigh the denigration their false propaganda subject us to" “I salute the courage of the Imo State judiciary and the professionalism of the State Attorney General. Never again shall we Igbos at this critical time shoot ourselves again on the foot. No matter how provocative, incendiary and unruly IPOB may be, they are our children. Aggrieved children can sometimes loose their guard" 3 Likes |

FACE:1.Fact number one.Only in a free, independent and fair nation can Igbos attain and reach their full potentials. So far,the Nigerian system employed and used all tricks in the book to frustrate and stampede on this. We keep pushing. 2. The systemic emasculation and exclusion of Igbos from the mainstream political and economic heights of Nigeria was a well perfected and orchestrated covert state policy post 1970. It was already 50 years old. It only took the recent social mediaboom, enlightenment and surge of educated Igbo youths to dissect and begin a process of dismantling the system. We are already playing our parts through all the ideas and disclosures made both here and in other multiple online and offline fora. 3. Creating the requisite conditions for industrial and commercial capacities to thrive will retain youths back home.Truly, the spate of brain drain in Igboland is worrisome and must be stemmed right now.Political leadership has vital roles to play in this instance. I guess the loud cries of Aku ruo Ulo and Think Home Philosophy being promoted all over Igbo contexts are meant to address this.So far,Dr Maduka,Uche Ogeah,Obi Jackson,Barth Nnaji and Nnewi Industrialists are driving this change through the provision of critical infrastructures in the region. 4.The provision of critical infrastructure like super highways, large grid power stations and rails are still in the exclusive lists. This is constitutional limitation on the state or regional bodies. Nonetheless,i know Odua Group (Yoruba Commonwealth Group) are already seeking to influence the federal government to release and concession some critical infrastructure like the MMIA and National Theatre to them. I also the recent North East Development Commission is way to build a regional engine of development for that region through other means. The need for "Ikenga Group" (Igbo regional union:emphasis mine) is long overdue. 5.In my opinion and based on verifiable history,Nigerian governments, either state or federal or regional suck big time in business. Going into Equity with reputable operators is the way to go either in floating an airline, shipping line, sea port or other infrastructures. Again, are these things in exclusive or concurrent lists? 6.So far,the only centres for RnD are our universities, the few modest research institutes and private initiatives.Do we have the clout to attract international research institutes, educational foundations and donor agencies to build centres for Research and Development in our climes? 7.Again,creating a gas layout is a capital intensive venture. I once wished all the key Igbo players(Septlat,Oronto,Chrome,Tecon,Atlantic and Nestor Oil Companies) in the oil industry can undertake and see to the creation of Alaigbo gas development plan and be allowed by law to own the facility and its proceeds for 99 years. 8.Finally,i agree with you that given our peculiar circumstances, the time to recreate and build our capacity for self reliance within Nigeria is long overdue. All we need are much more forward looking leaders with global visions. 5 Likes 1 Share |
