In recognition of her distinguished contributions to the development of French education and culture in Nigeria, the French Government through its Embassy in Nigeria has presented a “Palmes Academiques” award to an associate professor and Head, department of Languages/Linguistics/Literary Studies in Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Dr. Nnenna Nwosu-Nworuh.

Presenting the award, the French Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Denys Gaeur who was represented at the occasion by the Head of Cooperation and Cultural Affairs and Director, Institut Francais, Abuja, Mr. Arnaud Dornon described Nwosu-Nworuh as a worthy recipient of the award, following her efforts in facilitating the establishment of the Franco/AE-FUNAI Joint Scholarship partnership programme which was signed between the French Government and the university on January 23rd, 2017. The programme is intended to train some selected academic staff of the university in renowned French universities for their Master’s and doctoral programmes. Through the programme about 21 academic staff of the University are currently studying in France while efforts are already in top gear for another set of beneficiaries to leave for further studies this year.

Earlier in his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba described Nwosu-Nworuh as an asset whose hard work and dedication as a lecturer has brought the institution global recognition. He thanked the French Government for recognizing her good works, stressing that the collaboration with the French Government would be sustained.

Receiving the award, Nwosu-Nworuh attributed her success to the strong support from a man who has played both fatherly and brotherly role in her life, Dr. S.S.O Nwosu, an 86year old Consultant Obstetrician, who trained and supported her to achieve her goals in life. She further extended her special thanks to the Vice- Chancellor and her colleagues for providing a conducive working environment needed for success in life.
