This is a political statement. This statement made in 2007 before election. After BRF might have won the election in 2011, the same statement would be said again in 2015. Please your Excellency, Ikorodu people want your presence in their constituency. Do not abandon these people and give them opportunity to reap dividend of democracy.
The jetty in Ikorodu was not commissioned and this is part of alternative route to dilapidated road. Even the oba feels unconcerned about development of Ikorodu. Presently, the population of this place is alarming and government presence must be felt.

@fstranger3,
You know what? your name answer and respond to your level of understanding the basic infrastructure development vis-Avis good leadership.
I will analyse things for you in case you're blindly following the progress in Lag. I know you're not a Lagosian and that won't be an issue, in as much you're a Nigerian i think you deserved some enlightenment in a situation like this.
Take a look at Lagos in past 20yrs versus now the difference is unambiguous, level of social infrastructure and basics need of people are gradually been turn around. If somebody now choose to be sabotour and claimed Innocent of this good thing i think that person lack common moral and does not feet leaving in a logical environment.

I don't think so at all. This was disclosed just last year and everything needed to get the project going like has been done, the only hold up is money as usual. It's also going to be a toll road which the government also have to deal with in light of some segments of the state agitating against tolling of roads. This is a huge investment and somebody is gonna have to pay for it.

About the jetty in Ikorodu, this is Fashola commissioning the Ikorodu jetty. Is it the same one you're saying is not commissioned yet?

Africa Energy Nigeria Electricity – Excitement As Fashola Electrifies Ikorodu

Source: Daily-Independen t- February – 7 – 2011

Two communities, Olorunsogo Abule-eko and Surulere Abule-eko in the ancient town of Ikorodu in Lagos have not witnessed a visit from prominent personalities in the last three years aside visits by traditional rulers during community festivals.

The neighbouring communities, situated in the outskirts of Ikorodu, however got an August visit from the State Governor, Babatunde Fashola alongside other members of the State Executive Council, legislators representing the state at the state and national levels, candidates of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ANC) in the forthcoming elections, and chieftains of the party.

The excitement among residents of the communities was justifiable as they now enjoy electricity like their urban counterparts after many years of darkness, courtesy of the of a 500 KVA transformer to boost electricity in the areas. Many of them however noted that their joy was motivated by the opportunity to see the benefactor of the project.

Thus, with the knowledge that Fashola was scheduled to handover the projects by himself to the communities, hundreds of residents trooped out to witness the ceremony.

Little wonder that despite Fashola’s arrival four hours behind schedule, they waited patiently under the rain to catch a glimpse of the number one citizen of the state. Some came out wearing their best attires, the women were adorned in Aso-ebi singing pro-Fashola songs. The atmosphere was rowdy and paints a picture of a political gathering.

Indeed, the crowd that welcomed the governor a few metres from where the transformer was housed was unprecedented. It showed that he was really accepted by the community; a tall masquerade, synonymous with the area staged a dance to welcome the governor.

Fashola arrived the area with his campaign machinery and officials of the state government like the Commissioner for Rural Development, Prince Lanre Balogun; Special Adviser on Health, Mr. Toyin Amzat, among others.

At Olorunsogo area where a 500 KVA transformer was commissioned, several residents trooped out to welcome the governor with songs of joy and praise.

Commissioner for Rural Development, Balogun said the transformer was meant to boost power supply and to decongest large number of people from overloading a transformer, so as to prevent it from explosion which normally occurs as a result of too much pressure on it. He said it was also discourage rural-urban migration.

He said the state government believes that people in the rural and urban areas should have the access to social amenities, adding that citing of rural electrification and water projects in rural areas, would greatly help to curb rural-urban migration in the state and reduce the pressure on amenities in the city.

This is the reason why government is spending lots of resources to develop the rural areas in order to make it a lure and attractive for people to want to stay and work in rural areas. “We want to ensure that people’s lives were touched. We have gone to the remotest part of Lagos State to site these projects. We have done a lot of interaction with them and provide what they need,” he said.

Balogun who opined that the project would bring a new lease of life to the benefiting communities said the completion and successful handing over of the projects represented a continuation of the commitment of the present administration to providing the dividends of democracy to the people.

Fashola told the crowd that the state government that ear of importation of transformers was gone as government now manufactures the equipment locally through partnership with the Elsewedy Group of Cairo, Egypt.

He thanked members of the community for their understanding, saying that for the past 12 years the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led federal government has been promising Nigerians that it would provide electricity to no avail.

“The Federal Government is not doing anything. We are not making money from the transformers but we give them out free. The Federal Government said it would improve power supply in the country and nothing had been done since. But we did not promise to give you electricity, but we are doing it,” the governor maintained and called on the people to be ready to monitor and defend their votes ahead of the 2011 elections.

He urged the people to be vigilant by ensuring that when the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, displayed the voters’ cards, they should go there and check to ensure that their names were not replaced with that of “Mike Tyson and Michael Jackson” as was the case in the 2007 elections.

I really don't know why it's so difficult for people to stop making up lies and misinforming other people.

How do we learn if that's all we do?

It's easy to spend a few seconds googling to find info than sitting here and typing fake info and lies.

We know the usual enablers and facilitators of lies and negative news will show up to add their own touch of ignorance, but spare us and do some research before dishing out false stories.
