COUNTRIES WHERE NIGERIAN STUDENTS CAN STUDY ABROAD FOR FREE Do you know there are several international governments that have taken the responsibility for university education of their citizens? More interesting is the fact that they open the same door of opportunities for free education to international students! Many of such countries that allow free education are within Europe because they have free-tuition policies, proven research and trainings readily available. They welcome thousands of international students from year to year with the same access to academic facilities as their aboriginal students. Here, I will show you countries you can go to without thinking too much about your tuition fee. All you need to think about is the basic fee of accommodation and feeding and you will be fine. Below is a list of countries and some statistics that could help you to make decisions according to your budget and taste. 1. Finland This is a European country that has its public universities tuition fee free for all European students. Also, international students who choose to study in their language – Finnish will enjoy that same luxury. Otherwise, students who wish to study in English will be required to pay about 1,500 Euro per year for their bachelor or master’s degree. The living cost in Finland is around 800 to 1300 Euro per month but could be a bit higher in popular and central cities. Popular courses studied in Finland include Finance, Science & Technology, Engineering, Business Administration and Mathematics. Students are also allowed to work for 25 hours a week. 2. Brazil Brazil has also welcomed students from different parts of the world who have not only enjoyed the free studies but also the carnivals, dance activities and also football leagues. Public universities in Brazil offer students with high quality education without tuition fees. Students only get to pay a little amount for registration processes. The only limitation that international students may face is a language test (CELPE-Bras) in Portuguese to show that they will be able to cope with the language while studying. If you are lucky to pass the test as an international student, you will be fully accepted into the Brazilian academic system with all the free privileges that come with it. Although there are some courses that are taught in English and some Public Universities that teach in English. 3. Germany Germany is a choice for many international students because of the free tuition fee in most of their public universities. Most courses come with just a little fee for administration cost & student’s union (about 150 to 250 Euro per semester). You also need an evidence in your account to cater for student’s upkeep ranging from 8,700 to 9,600 Euro for yearly living expenses. This opportunity is usually enjoyed by both local and international students from all public universities An exception is the Baden-Württemberg in south-west Germany which introduced tuition fees for non- European students in year 2017 which costs about 3000 Euro per year. Although the cost is lower for master’s students (650 Euro) than undergraduate students. Germany’s educational system has a high reputation all over the world. 4. France France has always been known for beautiful scenery and statues. It also has a standard educational system that is totally free. where charges are involved, it is very subsidized (a little fraction of what is being charged in other countries) for students from any nation. Also, specialized courses such as medicine and engineering could attract a little more charges. Many courses are taken in French as a native language. Though a few public universities teach in English especially at graduate level. You can also choose to first attend a paid language preparatory class before starting your degree properly. This will enable you to easily cope with communication and written tasks during your studies. Your living cost within France could vary between 9,600 to 10,000 Euro per year depending on your lifestyle, tastes and city you live. 5. Norway Norway is a beautiful country that gives free education to both local and international students. Though you will have to pay a little amount per semester for administrative and union cost of about NOK500 equivalent to 40 Euro. For undergraduate courses, it is very important to be able to speak the native language – Norwegian. English – taught courses are also available for both master’s and PhD students. The hitch here however, is the high cost of living which is about NOK 10,000 (an equivalent of 800 Euro per month) The way you can control this is to get your pockets steady by keeping a job that allows you to work 20 hours a week while studying. 6. Spain Spain is a country with an amusing culture and a good history. It also has great tourist’s attractions that attracts visitors from all over the world on a daily basis. Statistically, it ranks number three (3) among the popular countries visited by international students with almost half coming from the USA. Spanish Universities, seventy-four in number, are relatively cheap for European and overseas students with a little cost of about 700 to 1280 Euro. Master’s and PhD degrees are more expensive than an Undergraduate program. Don’t forget to give yourself an extra edge by learning Spanish while studying, as it is the second most widely spoken language in the world. 7. Iceland Iceland is a country with free public universities without tuition free except a little amount of about 400 Euro per year for registration. However, private universities are not tuition free but are also affordable when compared with what other European schools charge. The country is not an European country, though it is a Schengen country. Students and people living there have access to other Schengen countries and other places across Europe. Living Expenses in Iceland ranges between 600 and 700 pounds per month. Accommodation costs vary, depending on the particular city you reside. Most application for Iceland Universities close by the third to sixth month of the year for students resuming in September. 8. Sweden A country full of top-notch universities recognized everywhere in the world. It is entirely free to attend Swedish schools as a national or European. However students from other parts of the world asides these are only required to pay a little amount for tuition. The fees range from 6,390 Euro to about 11,180 Euro annually for undergraduate and master’s degree. It all depends on your course and the specific university. PhD is completely free for students from any part of the world. However, you need to prepare well towards your accommodation as living costs here can be a little expensive. http://topstudentsng.com/countries-where-nigerian-students-can-study-abroad-for-free/ Good financial planning and prudent spending are key attributes that will help all students to cope. If you know your IQ is not up to 160, do not even consider France for a science or engineering degree. The French are known for having some of the most brutal and unforgiving educational systems especially for someone who has never been through the system. |

Chukason1: I am impressed with your contributions so far. The point is that in Finland you mention, you will still study free with their Language. Sweden still offer free Phd courses as indicated in the write up. Let us encourage Nigerian youths to build a lot of interest in foreign language. This will open more opportunity of free education for us. For example French, Portuguese and German are well available to learn in Nigeria and they will offer you free undergraduate and post graduate education if you can attain the B2 level. This is achievable in one year. Thanks so much for your insights so far. |

topstudents: Alright bro .... Language remains a barrier but you didn't state it at first ..... Even if the language issue is leveled where will an average Nigerian get the sun of 4million naira to fund the block account (Germany).... Sometimes even attaining the B2 level is a hard task and not to mention the years wasting ...... |

Racism and prejudice is also an issue in Germany, especially if you are having a "Black Skin" from Nigeria. Also due to issue of terrorism the German govt. are strict on immigrants. |
