A modified 2000hp Nissan Qashqai from Severn Valley Motorsport (SVM) has dethroned the Toyota  Land Cruiser as the world's fastest SUV by hitting 237.6 mph.

That’s 7.6 mph better than the 230mph record Toyota managed to do with its modified 2000hp Land Cruiser in 2017.

The transformation into its record-breaking started six years ago, when Severn Valley Motorsport (SVM) fused the crossover with a Nissan GT-R sports car.



The Qashqai’s body was lowered onto the GT-R’s  chassis and running gear. Then SVM upgraded the powertrain by lifting the twin-turbo 3.8-litre V6’s output from 523bhp to 2000bhp.

This record makes the Nissan Qashqai faster than the top speed of a standard McLaren F1 and quicker than the take-off speed of a Boeing 747 jumbo jet.

Some people still argue that the Land Cruiser is the true record holder since it is a body-on-frame SUV , while the Nissan Qashqai is technically a crossover.
