Many Igbos may not have heard 'Ika' being spoken before. The video below is dramatized in Ika and takes place in Agbor in Delta state. It's about a group of people who gather for a job interview. Agbor is probably the hardest of the Ika-Igbo dialect to understand and the farthest from Asaba, but I urge me fellow Igbos to watch the first two minutes of the video below so that they may never be deceived by those who say that Delta-Igbo land is part of Bini. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tp6_TnaqCZQ 1 Like |

I don't get your point. It's agbor /ikas people that usually say they aren't Igbo and that they descended from Benin. 1 Like 1 Share |

Keep deceiving yourself. If you like bring 100 videos, it won't change the fact that agbor is part of benin. 2 Likes 1 Share |

That language honestly does not sound like igbo to me (from an outsider's point of view of course) The intonation and accentuation is way off from what I am accustomed to in Igbo. Highly nasalized word endings amongst other unique features. 1 Like |

YourNemesis:Do ijebu speak same accent with Ibadan,or even ondo? See you guys should stop putting your Nose where it doesn't belong,From Your own mouth you claim you don't speak or Understand Igbo yet you know that the Intonations and Accentuations are Different from Igbo(as if we all speak the same dialect) Sorrry to say sir but you are Confused, have you heard Ngwa People speak,it is very Nasal than this so we should now Conclude Ngwa are not Igbo right? @topic,I am from Anambra and I understand what they saying up to 70% than I would understand Izza or Izzi, but if they say they are not Igbos, let's free them,Everyone must not be Igbo 9 Likes |

You people should stop this embarrassing unity begging already. Ikas are language parasites. An Edo people who threw away their Edo language and took up our Igbo language. When you listen to that clip, you would realize that it is Igbo language spoken with Edo accent. Of course, I understood 80% of what they were saying, most Igbos would. But all that proves is that they learnt Igbo language, it doesn't make them Igbo. Let them be, it's just two LGAs for crying out loud. 5 Likes |

Igboid: Exactly my previous point. The accent is not igbo, it sounds like someone is speaking Benin with Igbo words. 1 Like 1 Share |

I watched it. The accent is kinda off but if one pays attention, they would understand that they are speaking Igo. This is an example of Bini settlers learning the language of their new host environment and influencing the general accent of the new language. Ika land must have received a ton of Bini runaways in the past. I remember reading somewhere that Bini refugees and their descendants primarily swole up the Ika population. 4 Likes |

To solve this problem, ika is nt Benin, ika is nt Igbo, ika is ika, a separate tribe and language of its own, regardless of their historical origins dat is clear no one is sure of its real truth. Besides Igbo say they come from Israel(assuming its true) does that make them Jews? Pls let's not fight over yeye things, shutout to my ika pepo Osakwe Chukwuma Ozegbe Amaechi (NB: one name Edo anoda Igbo)One Africa |

This is my most realistic explanation of who IKA's are. 1. The idegenous or aborigines of that land are Igbo 2. Their was a massive influx of Benin or Edoid people either expanding their territory or fleeing their homeland mixing with the earlier indegious community. Therefore, influencing the intonation of their language and life as could be seen everywhere else in the world. My postulation is based on the fact the empires often raid and subjugate poeple around them in other to keep the machinery fueling it alive. From our history book we know that Bini empire had such sway. I have neighbours who are proper ika including some found in Edo and Delta state and I know that within them they don't have a general consensus on whether they are Igbo or Bini. I also discovered that those who married Bini or Edoid wives/husband tend to support the Bini claim while those who married within themselves and from the more eastern Igbo community tend to support being Igbos. Their are some Ika that I see and you will know that this person is of Bini stock like a guy named Odion. He looks like a Bini boy and I will never argue with him if he chooses to call himself Bini because it his glaring but for most of my Ika neighbours, they associate more with us than with other Edoid people. Lastly, I feel the Bini story is true for alot of IKA's same as the Igbo story is true for alot of IKA's too. This scenerio can be found everywhere in Igbo land. I am Nsukka but I am aware that alot of people from that side might have an Igala connection and some Igala land might be idegenously Igbo. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Ishilove: Lol. The problem with understanding the dialect is their off pronunciation. If written, you could probably understand it better than if spoken. 1 Like |
