Community Service: AE-FUNAI Partners EBSG to Train Wives of Police Officers
As part of its community service, the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State is partnering with the Ebonyi State Government to build the entrepreneurial capacities of wives of Police officers serving in the State.
The Capacity building programme which is geared towards equipping the women with the functional knowledge and practical skills to be self-reliant is championed by the Ebonyi State Ministry of Economic Empowerment and Job Creation through its Women and Youth Empowerment Scheme.


While speaking during a courtesy call to the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba at his office, yesterday, the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Economic Empowerment and Job Creation, Barr. Orji Uchenna Orji, expressed the gratitude of the State Government to the university for accepting to host the programme, adding that the partnership would help in building the entrepreneurial capacities of the participants, and thus engender robust economic development in the State.
He maintained that the government was committed to empowering the residents of the State irrespective of tribe or religion, with the necessary skills to excel in life, and thanked the Vice-Chancellor, for supporting the idea by making available both the human and material resources to train the participants.



He further extolled the Vice-Chancellor for the rapid infrastructural development and academic expansion going on in the University, stressing that they were testaments that he was prepared to leave worthy legacies in the university and assured him of the continued support of the State government.
Pledging the continuous friendship of the university with the State government, the Vice-Chancellor noted: “Apart from Education, our faculty of Agriculture was established to impact positively on the local economy”, adding “Through our radio station that is about to come on stream we shall be filling the agric extension gaps in Ebonyi State.”
The Vice-Chancellor continued: “AE-FUNAI is a blessing to Ebonyi State. Our target is to ensure that the State comes out of the national tag of being referred to as an education less advantaged state.”
He also noted that the university has a rare partnership with the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture, Ibadan, where it would serve as a multiplication and distribution Centre for Improved Cassava Varieties in the Southeast, stressing that it would boost agriculture in the State.


He however lamented the activities of natives who were bent on disrupting and sabotaging the infrastructural development, academic activities and agricultural efforts of the university, calling on notable sons and daughters of Ikwo Community and Ebonyi State government to intervene on the matter before it becomes late.
“AE-FUNAI is suffering because of the disruptive activities of local land owners who have refused to back out or give up the university land and if things are not done urgently to curtail it, it might get out of hand”, he stated.
Concluding, he reiterated the commitment of the university towards partnering with the State government in other areas, calling on all stakeholders to join him in taking the university to greater heights.
Earlier during the opening ceremony of the 3 days workshop, the Director of Centre for Development Assistance Management, Partnership and Training (CEDAMPAT), Mr Chris Uwadoka urged the participants to make good use of the knowledge to be garnered through the programme to achieve their aims in life; describing the training as a golden opportunity presented to them to upgrade their entrepreneurial skills.
He further highlighted some viable business opportunities such as sales/marketing, poultry, hair dressing, fashion designing and the likes. And encouraged them to be steadfast and hard working in any line of business they found themselves, stressing that what matters in business were also the location, the approach to customers and the quality of product or services being offered.
