Help me plz, anytime I insert my Sony 4GB flash drive, windows would be telling me cannot complete format, it even suggest I check if the drive is not protected or if its read-only,

I would appreciate suggestions on how to solve this coz the flash was working b4 I borrowed a colleague and on returning it it starts giving me diis problem.
