The Nigeria Police sealed Kano Assembly over plan to impeach speaker.

It was gathered that as at Sunday night, 21 lawmakers had duly signed in support of the speaker’s impeachment.

“We have already impeached the principal officers by having 21 lawmakers signed for their impeachment and we are needing only six members to make the requirement of 2/3 to impeach the speaker”, a lawmaker told Daily Trust.

“The reasons are many but the major one is incompetency. The speaker has completely localised the house.
“We cannot sit until after 2pm and even at that things are not moving as expected. We cannot just continue like that because we are representing our constituents.”

Meanwhile, armed policemen have sealed the complex.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Magaji Musa Majia confirmed the deployment of operatives.

He said, “We deployed our men to the Assembly to ensure that nobody breaks law and order.
“We need peace in the state and therefore we will not allow anybody to temper with existing peace and harmony being enjoyed by the people in the state.”

A police force carrying out the whims of politicians can not be said to be truly independent.

The Police Force is not constitutionally authorized to block the Law makers from accessing their Chambers. The Police has the right to stay within the premises, outside of the chambers to maintain law and order.

If the police stops any law makers from accessing their chambers to carry out impeachment, then the Police, as an instrument of state must be called to question, and if they are serving the political interest of any group, then the head of the Police Force should resign and face the judiciary and serve a prison term.

That is how it is supposed to work in a democracy.

Are we a democracy or we are fooling ourselves ? Time will tell.

These guys are full of it. How many people can even name the speaker of house. His presence isnt what fosters peace. I would think its the system in place not a single man.

Police should be on stand to ensure law an order anywhere and anytime in the country. It's true though that state policing would have been worse off as they would have been pawns in the hands of the Governors. Ganduje still enjoy Federal support so it's easy to deploy the police once needed.

Talking about incompetence, the speaker of my state assembly; Ebonyi is the dictionary definition of incompetence. He is a puppet in the governors hand to the extent the Assembly's mace can be taken to the governors lodge anytime both of them want to travel

Very die hard Kwankwansiya which ofcourse Ganduje was a beneficiary. A sitting governor has his powers too sha.
