In-as-much as I'm not against feeding the less privilege, but why would a govt spend such money on feeding people for fasting?? Just 30days? Is fasting not a personal relationship with God, why would the govt interfere with religion?? If u want to alleviate poverty, why not empower them n not just feed them for 30days pere?

Mynd44 and lalasticlala...... what do u think about this?
There are those who do not have anything to break the fast with, I have a friend with his brother who during my 100 level will break their fast with garri(without sugar) and carry their bags to class, despite not fasting with them I sometimes do the little I can to see that they have something to eat. People are living in penury here in the north.

The irony is that Ramadan is meant to be a period of fasting. There should not be a budget for it. This amount involved is quite ostentatious for a 30-day fasting period.

Why spend such an amount of money when you ought to be frugal? Is Nineveh's doppelganger in the Quran?

Allocating a budget for fasting defeats the purpose of the spiritual exercise (if at all it really is one).

Religion and state should remain separate entities.

They should focus on improving the welfare of the people in the north, rather than use a religious period to appear graceful and sanctimonious with charity. Fifty shades of hypocrisy, if you ask me.

To even think that over half of the money will be looted and the same people under whose cover the money was approved would be left to their own devices. If the caregivers at the IDP camp demand sex from the refugees before giving them food and water from donors, how much less their so called less priviledged who are a light year better than those IDPs.

We too dey politicize things for this country.

The government isn't ready to do anything because they need to keep them hungry inorder to make them slaves. Unfortunately, the slaves enjoy their chains hence the reason Northern region will continue to be slums.

I recall the Ekiti governor bought some wrappers to distribute for Christmas, the Muslims called for his head.
Are there no Christians in kano?
The double standard in Nigeria is sickening. In the north, Islam is already a state religion, with a police-Hisbah. why then are they so scared of restructuring when they are already doing things their way.

So once they eat for Ramadan, they won't go hungry again? Why not use that money to create some form of empowerment/employment.

Rubbish country!

Feeding them during Ramadan with government money is not the solution.

Nature has a way of creeating equilibrium and correcting imbalance.

An imbalance of excessive childbirth would be corrected by starvation.
The so called population of the North is sustainable only in self sufficiency and not subsidization otherwise you create a moral hazard in which people do not take responsibility for themselves.
those creatures that cannoot look after themselves will die out.

That is a law of nature.

You cannot sustain the transfer of wealth from the south to feed unproductive almajiris in the name of quotasystem.

Religion is a weapon used by the elites in the north to keep the people eternally illiterate and subservient to them so they can manipulate them during elections. Its sad that these same elites are the ones running the show in this country that's why the nation will never witness any form of development.

There's nothing conservative about the north.

Sharing foods doesn't win any elections in Nigeria. Theres a simple basis for voting in Nigeria......TRIBE AND RELIGION.

Simple.

Some of these things you accuse muslims of have been done by christians in the south.

Akwa Ibom state government is building an 8500 capacity mega church.

Lagos state once funded christians pilgrimage to Jerusalem.

Islam is not the only problem.
Christianity has contributed it's own share of problems.
Both religions are guilty.

Nigeria is better off without religion.
We need total secularisation.
