Yeah, explained it earlier. It's lack of cultural perspective. Raised in the US, and we don't commonly share the same plate of food. I have a friend who whenever I visit around dinner time asks me to sit down and eat fufu from the same bowl him and his wife are. I say no. I think it's weird and not sanitary.

Interesting aside: It's the same reason they say standardized tests in the US are biased against minorities. Because some of the idioms and ideas in the tests, minorities haven't been culturalized to understand. Same way I struggle with Taboo(game) in Nigeria, the majority of clues people use go above my head.

Read Canterbury Tales back in highschool, forgot that reference or didn't fully understand it when I did. It's basically saying keep your distance from certain people. But without understanding the culture of the time, the expression is meaningless. Why would one need a long spoon to keep distance if you're not eating off the same plate as someone?
