5 Ways to Preserve your Onions for Twelve month

Do you know that onions are the representative of sugar in our soup? A soup without onions lacks the sweet and quality taste. They add pizzazz to pizza and sizzle to steaks. Another great thing about onions is their long shelf life. Kept in a cool, dark location, they're always on hand when needed. In fact, when stored correctly in their own papery wrappers, some varieties will maintain their eating quality for as long as a year.
Storing of onions is actually simple and easy with a less stress. Basically we have four types of onions which are Yellow Onions, Sweet Onions, Red onions and White Onions.
All onions can be preserve, the only difference between them is the duration of each preservation. As for, Red onions it can be preserve within a month, if it can be going through sundry every day. While the white and sweet onions can still be preserve for at least three months, if it well preserved.
With enough research made on how to preserve it, I realized that the Yellow onions are the once that can stay up to ten to twelve month, when properly preserve. Now, how do we preserve onions.
The don’ts of onions preservation is:
• It should not be exposed to Water
• Potatoes and onions should not be stored together. They give off gases that will accelerate spoilage of each other.
• It should not be exposed to too much of heat.
• Don't ever store onions in plastic bags. That will accelerate sprouting and spoilage because of the lack of air circulation.
• It will last the longest in a dark, cool (but not cold), dry storage area. It can be kept in a 65-70ish degree kitchen drawer for up to 3 months. A cool, dark basement is a good choice, if you happen to have one. Onions should not be stored for an extended time in the refrigerator because the cold temperature will soften their texture; plus, onions will impart their flavor on surrounding produce due to their gases.

The Do’s of onions are:
• Regular sundry
• It should be kept in an open space using either basket, Flat card board bod with some holes punched in it.
• It can be stored in a mash bag.
• It can be stored on large tray.
• Well ventilated area, its need to breath.
After all this process you can then sit back and enjoy your Onions/Alubosa/Ayabasi as you can call it.

The good news is that we are presently in the season of Yellow, White, and sweet onions.
