Nigeria Health Sector: A Disdainful Disdain (by. Kolawole E. Tayo) by IamReallyboy(m): 12:59pm On May 28, 2018 |
The epilepsy in the system of this nation calls for a titanic cry, it is germane to weep for the hellish display of our health sector or what then shall we say when those who we look up to as ambassadors become the murderer of the people. A sector established to save lifes has change the motive of her establishment. The government in her structure is disintegrated to hold place to setter. . Apparently, many lifes has been in comatosed, some been ruined are owed to the insouciant custom of the shameless health sector, attitude elicited by this sector daily aggravated into jeopardy affecting Nigeria citizens in it's entirety. . I am appalled about my first experience when I followed an ill brother of mine to a Nigeria renowned hospital for treatment, my expectation could not be well knitted as what I met was an open-sore or an avoidable disdain. I had expected a first aid treatment to save his life before the proper medication. To my surprise the treatment of the dying patient was not their priority, they demanded for a huge fee when much as evident is spent on the health sector annually. In the face of this I was left with the rethorics of: Should this (money) be priority over treatment? And why is it that our medical practitioner are not compassionate? . Evidently, the plight we are tackling with in the health sector eventuate from the fraternal Chief executive officer of this nation, which is "corruption". Medical practitioners disgracefully ride on the track of corruption as corruption is not stealing from public fund and loans but inability to be responsive, useful and reproductive. . One major reason for this is the bad education of specialist leading to the retrogressive position of this sector. Many cosmetic personnel are not competent and qualified to be accorded with medical degrees, most of which did not did the cognitive aspect of medication to affect lives. The set of people who spent the larger days of their universities reading the antidote or antibiotics of the health service. Quacks on professional title who can't address the ill condition of the health industry. Do we really expect salubrious treatment from quacks? Those who cannot stand for their profession and rally round a progressing for her own people. Nigerian education only provides us with celebrity like professor Isaac Adewole, who can spend their age acquiring books and not recommendable ideas. It can't be disputed if the country is rated in a least list, suggestions like question should only be asked. Suffocating questions like why do Botany, Science Laboratory Technology, Nutrition and Dieterary, etc live in our institutions. . Ill - trained doctors and nurses had gone ride and ubiquitous in this sector, this problem also eventuated from poor education because doctors does not has the real experience of what they should put into practice in the world of work. Nurses are also intrinsic for every sane clinic. They play the crucial roles of staying the patients 22hours of a day, reports are submitted to doctors on the development and how the patients has been responding to treatment. Why some are actively dedicated, some nurses are not staunch in rendering their service, situation occurs when one found nurses sleeping on duty in their receptioning quarter. Nurses are not only meant to the stretcher-bearer but also closer to the needy as some in-depth knowledge on prescription of medicine and other related register are potent to be implored to the mode of their work. . It's a pity that most of the health architecture are not mosquito free, coming from home patients aiming to get a sound and healthy treatment from a serene environment, while some thrive, many local hospital stinks in abject backwardness. . Apparently, the nadir quota given to health sector from the Nigeria budget is not encouraging, 7% is annually allocated to nurture the health sector. There seems to be null credibility in this. Nigerian government budget millions of money to fight insurgencies, vandalism, kidnapping and other breaking crisis. If at all we want a progressing nation why do we allow public education and public health retrogress, shrink and sink in the face of struggle brag. Nigerian leaders cannot vouch of the health service they render. They always assume that their ailment cannot be treated in their own country, they are desirous of flying abroad for solution to their health problem. What is the essence of having UCH (University College Hospital) when our leaders are also dreadful of getting their treatment here. Let's recall that during the illness of Late Nelson Mandela, he was treated in his own country and not flown abroad. Until we countermand the normal route of getting treatment in overseas. Then the improvement we desirous to have will surface. Lastly, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director General said and I quote "Health is human right. No one should get sick and die just because they are poor, or because they cannot access the health services they need". Free health care is our right, the impoverish are not to die only because they have no penny to treat themselves, the aged, kids and widows must be given special consideration, revive their hope. If we fully intend to change the heartrending status of the health sector, Nigeria at all level of government needs to earmark more resources for the ailing health sector of the country.
