He's spent the last 3 years blaming GEJ (and lately Obasanjo) for not being able to deliver on the many promises he made on the campaign trail, and now he's switched to making excuses for why he might not get a second term: the one thing Buhari seems constitutionally incapable of doing is looking inwards and admitting that he just might be the one at fault for any particular failures during his watch.

Buhari is a total failure as a leader, and the prospect of his ruling Nigeria until 2023 is one that fills me with dread, for the near-decade of wasted opportunities it will represent. For that reason alone, I wish his claims about the opposition were true, but as we all know, the party that controls the FG controls the majority of the purse strings, making Buhari's claims transparently false.

The real problem with the opposition to Buhari is that the PDP is a disorganized wreck run by just another bunch of thieves and incompetents, while the newer and more serious candidates seeking to contest for the presidency lack both the track records and name recognition required to mount serious challenges. Sowore has a mouthpiece, but his ideas are mostly nonsensical, Durotoye has the closest thing to a coherent, thought-out platform, but nobody has ever heard of him and he's never run anything to demonstrate his managerial skills, while Moghalu has the best CV of the lot, but also the least visibility at the present time.
