Curfew In Ikot Ekpene: The Police Turn It To Channel For Making Money by focalpoint1976: 2:38am On Jun 04, 2018
Following last April incessant killings, rape and robberies in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, which were blamed on the rampaging cult groups, the local authority decided to put a 6-to-6 curfew targeting motorcycles which were believed to be the easiest means by which the bandits operated and escaped. But the police in the area seem to have taken advantage of the situation by turning it into a money-making venture. Residents of the area have expressed total loss of confidence in the police noting that everyday, before 5 pm, the police have already mounted roadblocks every corner of the town extorting money from people they allege to have violated the law. The police have the fixed price they collect from anybody caught with motorbike anytime they start their operation and if you fail to comply on the spot your motorcycle would be taken to their station under the pretext of taking it to the police headquarters so as to make you to go and start begging them and in the process, the amount is increased. Detail to follow shortly:
