No surprise. He(Walcott) was dropped for Lennon who in my opinion is a better player. Bent, however, would have been a better option than taking Heskey but his exclusion doesnt come as a surprise |

That's true. I have never liked Heskey as a footballer one day and i wonder how he made the squad. |

oisehumen: Heskey brings out the best in Rooney. . . . . The team is built around Rooney. . . .He will be surrounded by players that will bring the best out of him. |

Theo Walcott is the biggest flop here. I feel so sad for him as an Arsenal fan. Wenger gave him all the chances in this world to showcase what he got, but he blew it. No thanks to injuries anyway |

oisehumen: I feel for Darren Bent. I dunno what this guy have to do to play for the National Team. Did he not score 24 EPL goals this season? Christ!!!! Capello is taking ONLY 4 strikers to the World Cup and Nigeria is taking SEVEN strikers. . . . Nigeria as a country is clueless. |
Re: Breaking News (england World Cup Squad Updates) Theo Walcott And Bent Out! by KennyG6(m): 2:44pm On Jun 01, 2010 |
darren bent is not an internation player, its all well and good scoring a century in the premier league with most of his goals coming from the long ball over the defence where his pace gets him in but with international football you need more than that hence the reason successive england mamagers have never given him a look in |
Re: Breaking News (england World Cup Squad Updates) Theo Walcott And Bent Out! by oisehumen(m): 2:56pm On Jun 01, 2010 |
7 strikers to the world cup as against English 4 strikers. I think is not all about the number of strikers, but what the coach has in mind. His tactical plans. We want results, What would u say of Brazil, do u know how many strikers and defensive midfielders are in their squad? |
Re: Breaking News (england World Cup Squad Updates) Theo Walcott And Bent Out! by Sauron1: 2:58pm On Jun 01, 2010 |
oisehumen: Tactical plans ma foot. 7 strikers just about says it all. . . . . .Show me any big footballing nation that takes 7 strikers to the World Cup. Nigeria are under-dogs. . . . .Our formation should be 4-5-1. It has to be someone's wet-dreams that we can play 4-3-3 and beat teams in the world -cup. By taking fewer midfielders, Lagerback has signed his death warrant. |

Hmmmm, I really don't know what to say when it comes to Nigerian football. I actually gave up on our Super Eagles when Amodu took over. But we have about 7 midfielders too. I think the coach means well for us. |
Re: Breaking News (england World Cup Squad Updates) Theo Walcott And Bent Out! by Sauron1: 3:09pm On Jun 01, 2010 |
oisehumen: We have 5! Any freak injury to 2 of those means we are royally screwed by a Gorilla on VIAGRA. |
Re: Breaking News (england World Cup Squad Updates) Theo Walcott And Bent Out! by AndreUweh(m): 3:16pm On Jun 01, 2010 |
Adam Johnson is the only natural left winger in that 30 man squad. It is a pity that he will not be in the plane to South Africa. So, I guess J.Cole will start from the left flank while S.W-Phillips and A. Lennon will battle for the right flank. Goodluck to England and Nigeria. |
Re: Breaking News (england World Cup Squad Updates) Theo Walcott And Bent Out! by oisehumen(m): 3:17pm On Jun 01, 2010 |
Maybe our coach wants to play 4 or more strikers in one match, lol |

Re: Breaking News (england World Cup Squad Updates) Theo Walcott And Bent Out! by oisehumen(m): 3:45pm On Jun 01, 2010 |
But wait a minute; are u guys expecting Nigeria to go beyond first round? After qualification, i expected the NFF to quickly resolve the issue of foreign coach, but they delayed. From that period, i knew we can't go beyond first round because preparation is KEY to success when it comes to a big tournament like the World Cup. I looking forward to enjoying good football by other serious countries like Spain, Brazil, etc. |

Re: Breaking News (england World Cup Squad Updates) Theo Walcott And Bent Out! by medjai(m): 3:52pm On Jun 01, 2010 |
How is it 7 strikers in the Super eagles. The only out and out strikers in that team are Yakubu and Martins. Kanu plays more as a midfielder. Osaze, Obasi, Nsofor, Utaka, though they can play as strikers, their primary role is not basically striking. Besides, the best form of defence is attack. That we are under dogs doesnt mean we should play a defensive and unattractive style of football. If we sit back and play a defensive style of play against the Argies, we'll definitely get hurt. Also, one of the reasons Amodu was axed was because of the defensive and cautious style of play he adopted. He was getting the results but in an ugly way. There's a plethora of defensive minded midfielders in the Eagles. Isnt it right to balance it with a number of attackers? |
Re: Breaking News (england World Cup Squad Updates) Theo Walcott And Bent Out! by Olaolufred(m): 4:01pm On Jun 01, 2010 |
Capello is taking ONLY 4 strikers to the World Cup and Nigeria is taking SEVEN strikers. . . . Nothing is wrong with 7 Strikers. Some of them can still play well in Midfield. However, Capello may choose to go with one striker based on his own strategy. Someone else could choose more based on another strategy. Your strategy will be more influenced by the resources available. Mind you that our players differs to theirs. Let us support instead of being critical. |
Re: Breaking News (england World Cup Squad Updates) Theo Walcott And Bent Out! by sultan003(m): 4:09pm On Jun 01, 2010 |
7 strikers or 4strikers, it depends on the tactics of d coach. i saw an interview were capello said dat his selection policy was two, two and two. Meanin 2 players for every position, which makes sense because england are usin 4-4-2 formation. Apart frm dat check how many strikers in d list of argentina or italy or even ivory coast. |
Re: Breaking News (england World Cup Squad Updates) Theo Walcott And Bent Out! by Sauron1: 4:17pm On Jun 01, 2010 |
Olaolufred: By all logic, a team should have more midfielders than strikers. Of course, Nigeria as a country do things that defy logic. Who goes into a tournament with 7 strikers? How many of those can you play at a time? U will just have a bench filled with strikers who will not get a chance at playing. We are going to the world cup, people. . . A competition where if you don't concede goals, you cannot LOSE. medjai: If their primary role is not striking, i see no reason why they should make it. Go back to the days of Westerhof and Bonfrere Jo. . . . .None of em took 7 strikers to a football tournament. Something is wrong with the set-up. 7 strikers is way too much and it sounds desperate.
If we commit too many players to attack, we will get HURT as well. U claimed Kanu, Osaze, Nsofor and Utaka are not strikers, how defensive are these players when Nigeria is leading and we need to see a game off? By the time we lose the first two games, y'all will come back here to start criticizing when you should have pointed it out in the first place. I am not a fan of hindsight analysis. Nigeria will be exposed with 4-3-3. We are not equipped enough to function with it.
5 strikers should have been enough. . . . . No formation requires you to have more than 2-3 strikers in a team. Why do you then need 7? SEVEN?? Our coaching crew are CLUELESS. |
Re: Breaking News (england World Cup Squad Updates) Theo Walcott And Bent Out! by oisehumen(m): 4:29pm On Jun 01, 2010 |
We are in this situation because our head coach was not given enough opportunity to really examine Nigerian players both home based and abroad. The list of 45 that he drafted was reduced to 30 without giving the dropped players an avenue to express their skills. So, what do u expect? He is doing his best as far as am concerned. The problem is our NFF who are inept and have no brains. |
Re: Breaking News (england World Cup Squad Updates) Theo Walcott And Bent Out! by Sauron1: 4:32pm On Jun 01, 2010 |
oisehumen: If this is TRUE then the NFF should carry the blame. They have always been useless. If i remember correctly, didn't Amodu go to Angola with the same number of forward players? The midfield is the most important part in a team. They do the transition from the defence to the attack. . . . |
Re: Breaking News (england World Cup Squad Updates) Theo Walcott And Bent Out! by medjai(m): 4:36pm On Jun 01, 2010 |
The likes of Obasi, Nsofor, Odemwingie, Utaka, will play from the flanks. Kanu will most likely play as an attacking midfielder or supporting striker. Only Martins and Yakubu will play as strikers. You cant really blame Lagerback, there's a dearth of creative players in the midfield hence, the conversion of strikers to midfielders. He's working with what is available. |
Re: Breaking News (england World Cup Squad Updates) Theo Walcott And Bent Out! by BloodShed1: 4:37pm On Jun 01, 2010 |
The only problem I have with this squad is the exclusion of Darren Bent. This is the second time a World Cup approaches where Bent had a good season and he gets dropped. The first time they picked Walcott over him LOL, now it's Heskey. WHY THE HELL IS HESKEY THERE? People argue that size plays a part, isn't 6'7'' Peter Crouch tall enough?? I feel for Bent. He should have opted to play for Jamaica instead lol. |

medjai: The last time i checked, Nigeria have a professional league!!! What about those midfielders in Chrisantus' class or the Olympic team that blew everyone away in 2008? |
Re: Breaking News (england World Cup Squad Updates) Theo Walcott And Bent Out! by oisehumen(m): 4:46pm On Jun 01, 2010 |
Same story, same scenario everywhere! Capello should have done this or that; Largerback should have done this or that! Every coach has his own tactical plans for every tournament. I bet you; a different and intelligence coach would have made a huge success even with the caliber of players Amodu took to Angola. Everything points to the input from the technical side. |
Re: Breaking News (england World Cup Squad Updates) Theo Walcott And Bent Out! by Sauron1: 4:54pm On Jun 01, 2010 |
oisehumen: Amodu is a toad. . . . . .He shouldn't have taken Nigeria to Angola. Any of us here woulda achieved the same results he achieved. . . . .We finished 3rd because of the strength of that team. . . .Not because Amodu added any nous or tactical input to the team. |
