The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has said that the Ibom deep seaport project will serve the South - South , South - East, Middle Belt and the Federal Capital territory while also servicing the Gulf of Guinea. The governor spoke in Uyo while addressing the technical committee on Ibom Industrial City and Deep Seaport, representatives of the Federal Ministry of Transportation , Nigerian Ports Authority , consultants and other stakeholders after the pre - bid conference with three firms that are pushing for the development of the project. The consortium of Bollore and Power China ; China Road Breach Corporation , and China Harbour Engineering Company of Nigeria are the firms bidding for the project. Emmanuel said it was not helpful for a country of over 170 million people to depend on only one seaport. He said , “ People try to compare our port with others, but this is a natural draught, you do not need to worry about dredging or any other thing , ” he added. The governor said the port would be digital, with at least four exits to ease traffic congestion within and outside the facility, adding that latest technology would be deployed to make sure that goods are cleared at a very fast pace to enable investors to realise the timely return on their investment. He also thanked the Federal Government for the support in respect of the project. The Director of Transportation , Onwode Emmnauel , said the committee would leave no stone unturned not to default on the time given it to complete its work. http://punchng.com/ibom-deep-seaportll-serve-ssouth-seast-mbelt-emmanuel/# 1 Like |

You cannot end the monopoly of lagos seaport over night... The number of years required to end that monopoly is directly proportional to the number of years it took to establish that monopoly... Laws have to be established that would force the importation and exportation of certain categories of goods through different seaports, thereby reducing the use of one and increasing the use of the other(s). Anything short of this is an effort in futility. |

Forward thinking leaders from other regional states should come together to make this a reality. It shouldn't be left to AkwaIbom state government alone. 1 Like |

Please when are you completing the project.Enough of these talks ... It's a necessity in the region... This will go a long way in decongesting Lagos ports... Majority of those using the ports are from SE and SS.. 1 Like |

Akwa Ibom alone can handle this project. They dont need regional support. Other govs in the SS should have plan to eventually match Akwa Ibom on deep seaport provision. The SE and North East is a massive area and will make all of them viable.(particularly the SE) |

Without a deep seaport, we already have Aba and Nnewi. Once, a deep seaport is near, u cannot begin to imagine the kind of industrialization that will occur in that region. One deep seaport is not enough, it will be congested. 2 Likes |

eezeribe: The Law of proximity, makes IVM more likely to utilise Akwa Ibom Deep Seaport over Lagos. U dont need to make any other law. If I want to send things to the east where i have business or mansion, why should i go through Lagos wen i can go through Akwa Ibom? Common sense! 2 Likes |

eezeribe: Why are we so small minded in Nigeria. Nigeria needs more ports bros. Not just for the benefit of Nigeria but the whole subregion, all this land locked countries around Nigeria, rely on Nigeria for supplies and goods and their crude oil and other resources can be exported through our ports. we also need rail lines crisscrossing Nigeria into other African countries to ease trade. See, Nigeria is uniquely positioned (With all the resource, population and intelligent people) to significantly dominate African and all other countries would depend on us, especially within sub-Saharan African. There is a enough business for all the ports, if we can build. The French are a competition to Nigeria because they are already building this sort of infrastructure across, its former colonies. The whole of this subregions should be our market and our playground, it is our god given right as Nigerians by placing us in this location. But stu.pid tribal mindset is really limiting Nigeria's potential. 2 Likes |
