Morocco and Nigeria have agreed a cooperation plan to press on with a proposed pipeline transporting gas to the North African kingdom along the Atlantic coast.

King Mohammed VI and President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday oversaw the signing of the accord in Rabat detailing the way forward for the mega-project first agreed in 2016, Morocco’s MAP news agency reported.

The two countries are looking to build an extension to Morocco of a pipeline that has been pumping gas from resource-rich southern Nigeria to Benin, Togo and Ghana since 2010.
“For economic, political, legal and security reasons, the choice was made for a combined onshore/offshore route,” a statement said.

The proposed pipeline, to be built in several phases, “will measure some 5,660 kilomtres (3,500 miles)” and “respond to the growing needs of the transit countries and Europe over the next 25 years”, the statement said.
The next step will be to sound out countries around the region and customers in Europe and to talk to international lenders about funding the project, the release said.

Plans for a pipeline to take Nigeria’s vast gas resources to North Africa have long been mooted.

Algeria held talks with Nigeria as far back as 2002 for a similar pipeline crossing the Sahel region, but ultimately the Algerian government was unable to finance the project.

This is an outrage.

A Muslim President giving our oil and gas to his fellow Muslim, thousands of miles away.
He did the same thing with Niger Republic.
Any Niger Deltan that votes this nepotist should donate his brain to medical research.

Would it be cheaper to construct Modular refineries or refineries in Nigeria instead of sending the crude to morocco ??

If it would be , I will personally stand against sending our crude to morroco

But if the economic advantage includes cheap refining cost and speedy delivery back to Nigeria

Then it's a deal that has to be signed

Remember ongoing oil glut in the OPEC market.

This is a GAS pipeline my friend not crude. It will have a significant number of compressor stations. I don't know where Nigeria and Morocco think they will find the money for this kind of project.

Piping gas via Nigeria to Morocco is quite almost unrealistic due to the cost as well as the coatal line border agreement bidding the countries through which the pipes are expected to pass through, however these product can be convey by first liquefying the gas into LNG( liquefy natural gas) and then transported by using huge sea going vessels that are designed for such specifications...
