The former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has affirmed that supreme sacrifices of past patriotic Nigerians, particularly that of presumed winner of June 12, 1993 presidential election, late MKO Abiola, and lives laid down by other democratic heroes, which liberated the nation from decades of military ruling, have not gone in vain, with historic June 12, been adopted as Nigerian democracy day.

Atiku stated that he had never seized hoping for a day when prices, paid by those who put their lives on line to achieve democracy, which entire citizen were presently enjoying, would be glorified and be paid deserving dues.

Speaking at 25th anniversary of June 12 Democracy Day in commemoration of Abiola on Tuesday in Lagos, the former VP indicated that blood of democratic heroes were sacrificed for foundation of a democratic society that would guarantee fundamental human rights, secured citizenry freedom of speech, movement and ability of the people to belong to any lawful association that they deem inclined.
