The Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday granted bail to the immediate-past National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd), from the custody of the Department of State Service where he had been detained for two and a half years.

Delivering judgment in the suit filed by the ex-NSA in March this year, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu ruled that his detention since December 29, 2015, amounted to a violation of his right to liberty, Premium Times reports.

The judge, who rejected the ex-NSA’s prayer for N5bn damages granted him bail in the sum of N200m with two sureties who must either be a civil servant of Grade Level 16 at the minimum in the Federal Civil Service or private citizens, who have landed properties in the municipal areas of Abuja.

She ruled that the Federal Government’s contention that Dasuki was being kept in custody on the grounds of his alleged threat to national security and his alleged ongoing investigation for money laundering did not warrant “abrogating his right”.

In granting him bail, the judge said should there be any further reason to interrogate him, DSS could only invite and interview him between the hours of 9am and 6pm on working days.

‎This judgment came about one year and nine months after the Economic Community of West African States Court of Justice on October 4, 2016, ordered his release from illegal custody; a judgement which the DSS had not obeyed.

PMB should allow Col Sambo (rtd) out of detention while the present NSA & Minister of defence should be alert to their callings. Personally, I believe IBB & some retired Senior Officers problem with PMB has much to do with Sambo detention. To reduce the pressure on PMB government & the Fulani militia attack intelligence surveillance streamlining, it is good to reduce suspected enemies angle. I rejoice with Col Sambo on his freedom.

Eeya. Innocent Dasuki, Buhari hate christians and igbos. Imagine keeping Dasuki in prison for almost 3 years just because Dasuki didn't allow him to steal.

Dasuki the freedom fighter.

Yes, you are very right. Any Court judgement that shield the corrupt elite from justice is null and void. I have no doubt that Buhari will ignore this judgement on behalf of the good people of Nigeria whose common wealth was embezzled and shared by Dasuki and his cohorts.

I guess a corrupt citizen is one who encourages flagrant abuse of court orders. If a man truly stole a money, must he not be tried within the ambit of law? What difference exists between a man claimed to have stolen money(that is if indeed he stole since no case has been established against him) and another who keeps holding him against the law, trampling on his right to fair hearing? Both are same, Corrupt! Buhari has undermined the power of our democratic institutions more than any government ever. That is worse corruption than anything else, because by the time he is finished, nothing will be left for anyone to respect again. I will prefer a guilty man roam free than to have an innocent man jailed on fictictious charges. If Dasuki is indeed guilty, he should be tried without his rights trampled on. Injustice to one is injustice to all. Justice is not obtained by hate and vindictiveness.

He should be able to meet the requirement easily.

The problem, however, is that he might be rearrested immediately after meeting those conditions. It does not appear that the government wants him roaming free, however little it might be.

Those who are goading the government on the violation of fundamental human right and disregard for court orders should realise that those who hold the handle of the sword today may find themselves at the other end of the same sword tomorrow.

Dasuki should not go scot-free if he indeed helped himself and his cronies with public fund, just let his prosecution be done within the ambit of the law
Exactly, but when you say this the zombies will declare you an enemy of the state n supporter of corruption forgetting about the tomorrow.

A musician said after the reggae play the blues. This is after the absurdities returns normalcy. The period of garagara is over. Somebody is working overtime in the attempt to get the votes come 2019. Nigeria is blessed with a bunch of rulers and an unfound leader. But the day this country restructures it's fraudulent foundation, enthrones equity and justice, then a leader of the kingdom would have been found.
