SURVEYING IN CONSTRUCTION.

Surveying plays a vital role in construction such as in Road,Bridges,Dams,Railways and Buildings etc. Let's examine surveying in construction of buildings.

SURVEYING IN BUILDING CONSTRUCTION. The Surveyor is actively involved in almost all the stages of building construction. He works alongside with such professional as Architect,Civil/Structural Engineer,Quantity Surveyor and Geologist etc. His roles are as follows:

(1) Takes measurements of the piece of land where the building is to be constructed. Such measurements may include X,Y,Z of the land which will help to determine the Shape,Area,Dimension and Topography of the land. He prepares the plan and these parameters helps the Architect and Civil/Structural Engineer to make an informed decision in their job as regards to the construction of the building.

(2)After the Architectural design, the Surveyor uses the building plan to set-out the building on ground as designed on the building plan.He ensures that what's on ground reflects what is on the building plan.

(3)He monitors a situation where there is need for cut and fill in the site.

(4)After the building has been fully completed,He conducts an As-built survey to determine if the building is in line with the design for the building.

(5) After a period of of about 5-10years,the surveyor can also conduct a deformation survey to determine the deformation taking place in the building. So when we say that "Surveying is the Bedrock of Every Meaningful Development",we are not bragging but stating the obvious.

NOTE:Consult surveyors for any meaningful construction.

I bet to disagree with your point number 2.

A surveyor does not set out building plan, an Architect or builder does that.

surveyor will come up with the survey plan with proper coordinates and an Architect uses this to bring out his designs.

it is the duty of the surveyor to set out buildings sir with sophisticated equipment like Total stations and Rtk GPS with little or no supervision from the builder or an architect.

As simple as setting out of a building may look majority of us do not bother to find out what it is all about
Setting out is simply the physical transfer into the ground what was initially on plan or in paperwork. Transfering the building professionals drawing (the architect) plan onto the ground is a process of setting out.
Setting out can be complex yet simple. For more accurate transfer some engineers uses the services of land surveyors to get their set out right especially in large projects. Theodolite is often used by the surveyor or any engineer that has a good knowledge of the application to get the level of a subject place in relation to a decided point around the building area.
