The truth is that many people are educated in various  professions but end up in different occupations just to earn a living. Looking at it from your perspective, I can easily say that oil and gas workers are paid higher than anyone else on the average in Nigeria.
As per professionals, I would say Accounting and Finance is the most lucrative profession in Nigeria. They are more in demand, generally earn more, and they have the best career progression in any industry.
Difficult to talk about earnings, cos that is not standardized in Nigeria.

If you use the word 'profession', I think maybe oil sector field workers (engineers, geoscientists, etc) are probably the best paid in Nigeria.
Entry level salaries in the big MNCs for these guys sometimes exceed $70,000 a year equivalent, without adding benefits.
Outside that, possibly finance sector specialists, such as accountants, investment bankers, stockbrokers, etc, also make a good living in Nigeria. Maybe around $40k-55k equivalent. This field however doesn't have much room for entry level graduates.

If you talk of good and legitimate money, you give it to the engineers and scientist in the oil and gas industry. Some guys earn as much as 1000 to 2000 USD ( 160k to 320k Naira) per day consulting! Once you are experienced you can never be jobless unless you are no longer fit to work. Though, it is very difficult to get a job at entry level.

In the advanced world, the highest paid people cut across various professions but IT and Technology sector mostly still hold sway.

In Nigeria, the shift is gradually moving away from the admin guys like accountants, bankers and paper writing people to the more practical guys like the guys at the engineering cell sites, the computer programmers and other practical professions like those of engineers.

Adding a project management certificate adds more value to these practical professionals because the people in it mostly run projects while the Admin guys run processes.

Project Manager=Consultant(practical)=Earns lump sum
Process Manager=Admin staff=Earns salaries.

If u sturdy linguistics and join it with social science course like marketing or business admin.....or linguistics alone.....then u are in....if u get a job in a company or industry o boy u don chop the apple be that o

4. Construction
5. Manufacturing
6. Legal
7. Medicine
8. IT
Although there are more but these are one of the biggest booming industries in Nigeria

Even I too believe real professionals are those that can set up on their own, embark on a project plan and complete it with their knowledge and expertise not those who go to sell their lifetime for a salary and once they lose their jobs become a nuisance to family and society.

if you can start up something no matter how small it is you can make it, am proud to say that as a student I pay for my apartment well furnished both my school fees from just my little knowledge in I.T I earn more than most people working in big firm tho not monthly but checking out at the ending of a month I make up to 200k just from 3D rendering, sometimes 40- 50k on website design 5-8k for logo design handling seminars

for instance I hosted a training in my department on web design for 10k which I had almost 30studrnts check out for that

let's not relent on companies, if you can find them get a skill put your best be perfect in it, thank God for Nairaland were you can show your skills.... am meet serious minds

Architecture is da bomb! I started earning the sensible bucks in Architecture way back in my second year at UNI, i made mad money from model making, from draughting, 3D presentation and rendering that i never had to ask for school fees from home. I started designing and pursuing building and planning approval since 3oolevel for about N70k to N100k a package sand was able to move into my own apartment and start a transport bizness. Now we have CAD and other areas of specialising and marketing, stuff just keep getting better and better. i now design and supervise projects for people all over the world from my bedroom and watch my expertise and account grow. Its very difficult to become an architect though, all those sleepless nites and discouragements but if u do the time and put the dedication the sky is yr limit. Architects with the right idea and in the right place are the most successful professionals doing what they love and getting rewarded 4 it. gbam
