with more world cup appearances (including 3 wins), all bets are propably on Germany to snag all 3 points of the openning group D match. but in football it's not always what it seems. no doubt the team is facing some major setbacks wth key players like Michael Ballack and  Heiko Westermann both ruled out of the competition.

Australia on the other hand won't expect to be the pushover of the group. under the tutelage of dutch coach Pim Verbeek, Key players like Tim Cahill, Mark Schwarzer and Lucas Neil have expressed immense confidence that the team willl move on to the next round. and with their impressive friendly match outings, methinks we should take their word for it.

I can preview this encounter by saying that Germany is a better side. But the Australians having scored four goals in their last three games ie scoring two pass New Zealand and scoring against USA and Denmark, that doesn't pose a big one against the German machines from scoring in their German fashion.

It will be difficult for Germany to score because Australia has a very strong defence.
And we have the youngest team since long because of many injured players. I am not
sure if the young new players like Badstuber, Marin, Özil etc. are not too exited in their
first World Cup. Germany also has almost always lost the first match, apart from 2006.
I think it will be a match with some hard fouls from both and the score line is absolutelly open.
