Speaking on BBC Any Questions?, the crossbencher Peer argued the London Mayor's decision will bring "disgrace" to the capital and its public.

Baroness Deech said it is crucial to maintaining a good relationship with Donald Trump to safeguard future relations between the US and the UK.

She said: "I yield to nobody in calling Trump, I hate to use an impolite word, let’s say not up to the usual standards of American Presidents."

"I quite accept that."

"But America has been our friend for a hundred years."

Donald Trump visit: Baroness Deech slams Sadiq Khan over decision to allow angry baby balloon to fly

"Trump is just a four-year blip. We need to be friends with America."

"Macron benefited from treating Trump well."

"Sadiq Khan is complicit in something that will only bring disgrace to the London public."

Baroness Deech's comments come as the Mayor of London approved the request filed by a group of activists to let the six-metre tall balloon, dubbed "Trump Baby," fly over the capital next Friday.

The move is part of a series of protests against Mr Trump set to take place on July 13, when he will make his first trip to Britain as president.

Campaigners grouped under the name "Trump Baby" have raised some £16,000 to pay for the inflatable, and more than 10,000 people have signed a petition requesting to "make Trump Baby fly."

The Greater London Authority agreed to the use of Trump Baby during the protests but put in place strict rules.

A City Hall spokesman said: "The Mayor supports the right to peaceful protest and understands that this can take many different forms.

"His city operations team have met with the organisers and have given them permission to use Parliament Square Garden as a grounding point for the blimp."

The inflatable will fly between 9.30am and 11.30am on Friday 13 July - coinciding with a "Stop Trump" march in central London.

On the day, Mr Trump will juggle between the capital and Windsor Castle, where he will be holding a speech and meeting the Queen.

The group behind the stunt call themselves anti-fascist "art activists," and will now have to liaise with he Met Police and the Civil Aviation Authority to ensure airspace over London is managed safely on the day.

Activist Leo Murray told Sky News: "We didn't get off to the best start with the Mayor's office over this, who originally told us that they didn't recognise Trump Baby as legitimate protest.

"But following a huge groundswell of public support for our plan, it looks like City Hall has rediscovered its sense of humour. Trump Baby will fly!"

Interesting......

It is getting interesting by the day as there is now a proposal for a counter protest by applying to fly a baby Sadiq Khan to coincide with the President Trump visit. See link. https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/londons-anti-trump-balloon-upstaged-by-anti-sadiq-khan-balloon-that-raises-more-money/
