lovewins: Oga I don't give a flying f*ck about any past conversation. Do u think I go about my day thinking about debates we had I brought up turnovers when talking about Sabrina. I show u evidence and u are still arguing, no be juju be that? Would we be talking about turnovers if I didn't bring it up with Sabrina? Hell no, so what are u arguing about? How does u showing me data mean the coach is lying? Ben Simmons also started refusing to shoot in the playoffs, does that mean Doc Rivers told him to stop shooting even though he told the media he wants the man to shoot more? This argument is too childish abeg. Like u are doing a Filibuster, just rambling until nobody wants to debate again. The team sucked and Caitlin decided to do what she had to do to help the team get better. What's my evidence? Could it be the 4 games in a row that they won before facing Chicago or the 6 wins out of 9 matches that they recently played. Either one should be good enough but u don't care cos u wan win debate. U are telling me Sides shouldn't ask her to do anything because she had no preseason, well that is primetime excuse making. Spoon never stopped Angel from talking to the media. Angel herself said she wanted to see her family that came to see her for the first time in the W. This is another case of u making stuff up Angel has been shooting mid-range jumpers all season. She took 3 of them in the game before the fever. The difference vs the fever was that Smith was a free meal on the inside. Smith is a good offensive player that hates contact on defense. That's like Caitlin being left open for 3, would u expect her to do anything else apart from shoot 3s? So basically I shouldn't listen to anything anybody says to the media. I should only go by ur logic cos u are a mind reader who has forgotten more basketball that Magic Johnson? Got it.

BascoVanVeli: First, not need using swear words. Na argument no be fight. Yes you did bring up turnovers with Sabrina but you went beyond that. I'm going to quite directly the statement you made that elicited my response. You said "There is nothing stale about the fact Caitlin leads the league in turnovers. We are talking almost 2 more than 2nd place. U talk about teammates dropping good passes but won't mention that they saved some of her poor ones too. Her turnovers have mostly come from losing the ball and not her teammates dropping passes. I don't get why u Caitlin Clark stans are always looking for somebody to blame and never looking at CC. You telling the truth doesn't take away from her greatness". You also said We all know CCs Stan base would have been crying bloody murder if her turnovers were mostly her teammates fault. This only started after the last game so stop it So you see while the conversation started with Sabrina you widened the context and brought up her leading the league in turnovers, brought up Arike too in the process (didn't quote that) then allege that CC fans started calling out her teammates missing passes after the last game. It is why I referenced our previous conversation on turnovers to prove that as a lie. How can you claim it started last game when we both have previously argued about the same thing a month ago and I mentioned same things. On Angel, don't accuse me of making things up when you obviously don't know what I am talking about. The media requested for her post game even though she wasn't a top scorer. They can do this because it's part of the CBA contract. This was the game against Indiana when Chennedy bumped CC. If you remember Angel was seen clapping and cheering when that happened. It was the smart thing to do preventing her from facing the press as nothing she said would have helped. Chicago and Tspoon chose to protect her players and they were fined next day by the league. So get your facts straight before making claims. I'm almost certain Angel's family wasn't in that game, but I don't mind being proven wrong. The one I know her family was in was her homecoming game against the Mystics. On not listening to Media, you'll be very naive if you take people's word for it just like that when actions says otherwise. When Chennedy fouled CC she was asked what happened and she said nothing. She was asked what CC said she said nothing. She was asked what she said to CC and she said nothing. By your logic, we should ignore everything we say with our 2 eyes on the floor and trust what she said right? Caitlin is media trained and the last thing she would do is throw her teammates or colleagues under the bus. She always says the right things sometimes to her own detriment. But I understand why she will cause she has a brand to protect. Won't even go further arguing about the shot thing with you. Any objective person who sees the data without bias will reach same conclusion. |
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread - Onward To The Afrobasket by BascoVanVeli(m): 9:53pm On Jun 26 |
lovewins: So u can call me dishonest but I can't use swear words that are not even directed at you. Must u always play the victim I brought up both players turnovers cos we were discussing who is better. It must have struck a nerve with u but my discussion was solely centered on Caitlin vs Sabrina. U are one Caitlin fan Sir. U are not fans, u are one person. U brought up Arike and LeBron James not me: LeBron leads the league in turnovers. Alyssa Thomas averages 4 currently so not far from CC. Arike, Cooper, Sabrina, N.Cloud and SDS averages 3-3.5. I have explained my stance on turnovers so this is just arguing to argue. This is honestly ridiculous. U dance away from every point by saying that is not the person really wanted to say. Sides says she wants Caitlin to be aggressive, u say that is a lie. Caitlin says she wants to trust her teammates, u say that's a lie. Spoon says she wants Angel to finish better and take midrange jumpers, u say that's a lie. Now u are saying Angel was excused by the Sky from media when Angel herself said she was spending time with her family. U know what? They should just cancel press conferences and hire u to tell the world what these people are really thinking. Your Chennedy point is just hopeless because she first of all didn't want to talk about the incident. she literally said "I don't want to talk about Caitlin Clark". But then she came back and explained herself some days later but of course u will overlook that to make a point. They are not going to pay us for this debate, I hope u know? |
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread - Onward To The Afrobasket by BascoVanVeli(m): 1:18pm On Jun 29 |
Sides don talk am again oh. One thing I noticed is that Caitlin finds it hard to create off the bounce. She needs to work on her handles and mid-range
|
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread - Onward To The Afrobasket by lovewins: 1:48pm On Jun 29 |
BascoVanVeli: She's been put on the spot, of course she had to. But we don't need her to really z we need her to work it out. Don't tell us, show us on the court that's why she has the job. Also to clarify, do you mean Caitlin finds it difficult creating shots for herself? |
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread - Onward To The Afrobasket by BascoVanVeli(m): 2:13pm On Jun 29 |
lovewins: Lol u are funny oh. I guess she wasn't put on the spot when she said the same thing after playing Chicago. I said she finds it hard to create off the bounce/dribble. Caitlin's handles are mid at best. She can follow a straight line to the basket but when it comes to straight up dancing with the ball and getting rid of a defender, not so much. |
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread - Onward To The Afrobasket by lovewins: 2:27pm On Jun 29 |
BascoVanVeli: Again, after she was asked, and definitely not as clear as this. But like I said, all of that doesn't matter if she isn't drawing plays to make that happen. She's the coach and it is her responsibility to do so. She literally took just 9 shots after the same Chicago game you referenced. If she is doing her job that shouldn't happen. I asked for clarification because many people seem to conflate that to mean Caitlin can't create her own shots which isn't true; or at least not hinged on facts. The only guard with less assisted shots than her in the league is Arike. I however agree that she needs to improve on her midrange, handles/dribble. She's obviously learning cause she split a double screen against Seattle before dropping a floater. All of this in time. |
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread - Onward To The Afrobasket by BascoVanVeli(m): 4:15pm On Jun 29 |
lovewins: That's kind of how press conferences work. Media ask questions and people answer. Were u expecting the coach to tweet it out? U guys act like the fever don't run plays for Caitlin. But which WNBA team have u seen running plays every time they get the ball? Even in the NBA they are not doing it like that. Paul Pierce said it best. After publicly getting the green light she should have been more aggressive. If u are running plays for her all day u are also taking away her 2nd greatest gift which is her ability to create for her teammates. She just needs to shoot the ball! Also her teammates should make an effort to find her. The coach can only do so much |
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread - Onward To The Afrobasket by lovewins: 6:08pm On Jun 29 |
BascoVanVeli: I won't argue much about Sides. She's on a clock and only a matter of time before she's out. I really can't blame herz she's out of her league. This is her first stint as head coach and she's having to handle of of the pressure that comes with coaching 2 great talents in CC and AB. She'll definitely adjust and run plays from her before she's out and we'll come back to this. |
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread - Onward To The Afrobasket by BascoVanVeli(m): 7:27pm On Jun 29 |
lovewins: That's just an excuse. T Spoon is a first year coach who has big personalities to manage. The difference is that nobody is disturbing her about any and everything. Of course Sides is going to be out and I wouldn't be surprised if Caitlin's Iowa coach gets that job. Caitlin has done her part to help that but nobody is ready for that conversation. |
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread - Onward To The Afrobasket by lovewins: 7:44pm On Jun 29 |
BascoVanVeli: Tspoon is also getting a lot of flack too, you just aren't seeing it. The difference however is that despite the loses, people can see she's making Angel a better player. It's why though they aren't happy with the loses, they can at least be persuaded with the fact that Angel is getting better. I also don't think CC's college coach is getting the job even though I wouldn't mind if she did. I think much of what she's doing is advisory. Now we are accusing CC for helping in getting Sides sacked? She's literally never said anything remotely negative about her to elicit that. Sides is doing all of that herself. Like Rebecca Lobo said, you don't make Caitlin Clark adjust to your system, Caitlin Clark is the system and herein lies Sides fundamental flaw. |
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread - Onward To The Afrobasket by BascoVanVeli(m): 9:49pm On Jun 29 |
lovewins: Rebecca Lobo also pointed out instances that Caitlin should have shot the ball but didn't Every coach gets criticized but we both know u can't compare Spoon to Sides in that regard. Angel is doing what anybody who knows Angel knew she would do. Even A'ja Wilson said she expected Angel's rebounding to translate to the league. Caitlin has never spoke negatively of her coach but she has not come out to support her coach either. She claims she doesn't hear the noise but her boyfriend and brother are always busy liking tweets dealing with everything going on. She could end a lot of talk by simply speaking up in support of her coach and teammates. Outside of that, we all saw her catching an attitude with her coach during a timeout. Coach publicly asks u to shoot more and the next game u take 9 shots. Give me a break |
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread - Onward To The Afrobasket by lovewins: 2:37am On Jun 30 |
BascoVanVeli: This is becoming ridiculous. This is the same lame rhetoric some folks spew over the internet. So let's unbundle this. Caitlin is being held to standards nobody in the history of sports have been held to. Every superstar have toxic fans. None has been required to call out said fans, none. If there's an example please highlight it. Just last season, South Carolina fans were viciously bullying NaLyssa Smith that her own mum and family had to go on a social media tirade to defend their daughter. No one required Aliyah Boston to call out her fans. Another funny difference is CC isn't closely related to any of the fans in question while Aliyah personal knowledge many in the case referenced, she even follows some of them of social media. Do I expect Aliyah to do that publicly? No. We are not in the dressing room and players generally tend to block the noise on the outside and focus on themselves which is what they did. What I however do not expect is CC being held to a different standard. She had said continuously that she tries to block all the noise on the outside as what matters is her relationship with her teammates which is what she focuses on. Smart of you to leave that out. And we can see visibly that they don't have issues with her again cause we are not in their dressing room . There was literally revenge porn targeted at her at the beginning of the season and she didn't publicly comment. The receives more hate than most in the WNBA especially from black folks who believe she's being unfairly compensated at the expense of others and no one requires her teammates to show publicly show support. What's even more ridiculous is you asking she publicly support her coach and suggesting she's not scoring to sabotage her. Has any other of her teammates publicly supported Sides since that is the new standard? On Angel, no most people didn't think she'll translate immediately. It is why she was number 7 on the draft. Only Tspoon believed she could and the gamble payed off. I also do think Chicago is just the best fit for Angel. Glad it's working for her though And oh, please reference tweets that her brother and boyfriend liked cause I've heard that many times but no one seem to bring any evidence. They even go as far as saying they are liking racist tweets. I can however show you tweets from south Carolina fans just between the last 24 hours saying CC isn't comfortable around black people, that her fans hate Kate because she's gay, and many more in the line. All of this in the last 24 hours. But no one expects AB to call them out because that's what fans do sadly. |
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread - Onward To The Afrobasket by lovewins: 11:12am On Jun 30 |
BascoVanVeli: Addendum: I am not saying if Caitlin publicly seeks for Sides to be sacked I wouldn't back her. I would back her 100%. What I am disputing is you putting the responsibility of public support of Sides on her. Caitlin has more than earned the right to request for a coach change. She's earned them more money (and the league is generally) this year than the my have in a long time. 2 away team already grossed their highest income from an Indiana game. She brought in more people in 5 home games than Indiana had all of last season. So yes, she's has more than earned the right to request for her sack if she so pleases and she won't be doing anything new but the way. In 1981, Magic Johnson publicly requested for a trade from the Lakers because the system being run by then coach Paul Westhead didn't fit him. Mind you that same team had NBA legend Kareem and Westhead preferred to run the system around Kareem. Magic preferred a fast paced game and even though the Lakers were winning games, he was no longer enjoying basketball. He publicly requested for a trade after they won a game. Mind you, Magic had been seen in public arguments with his coach prior to that. Less than 24 hours later Westhead was same and Paul Riley was employed. The team was then built around Magic who in turn won many championships for the Lakers. Why could Magic Johnson do that even though he was new to the league? He had done more for the NBA at the time than his predecessors. He had earned the right to do it. If Caitlin today decides she's sitting out games, even the commissioner of the WNBA and fellow team owners will weigh in. She however hasn't done that and until she does she shouldn't be accused of it. |
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread - Onward To The Afrobasket by BascoVanVeli(m): 6:14pm On Jun 30 |
lovewins: In Sports? Oga every time there is a racist outburst in football, players are asked about it and they are expected to condemn their fans actions. When Bonucci blamed Moise Keane for the racist outburst from Caglairi fans the whole world was at his top. To say no athlete has ever been asked to call out their fans is just a lie. Are her teammates the most famous women's basketball players in the world? Or am I missing something. That's like asking why Messi's teammates don't support their coach publicly. Nobody cares what they have to say, the only thing that matters is the main character. Who are the most people that said Angel won't translate? Everyone that I saw getting asked about Angel said she would be good in the W. I'm talking about ex WNBA and NBA players. The thing is that Kamila was the 3rd pick in that draft and has not come along just as fast as Angel. Thank goodness she doesn't have Caitlin Clark type fans because they would overlook her missing weeks through injury and say Spoon is only showcasing Angel cause she is black. They would ask why Angel is taking more shots when Kamila was the higher pick. Then u say that people thinking Angel wouldn't translate was why she dropped to 7. That makes no sense at all because she was still a 1st rounder. Only 6 players were picked before her. |
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread - Onward To The Afrobasket by BascoVanVeli(m): 6:29pm On Jun 30 |
lovewins: Nice way to rewrite history but sit back and let me tell u what really happened. Magic had already won the NCAA and NBA titles back to back. The next season they lost 2-1 to Houston in the first round of the playoffs. In the off-season he signed the biggest deal in professional sports and then early in that season, he had that dispute that u were talking about. The fact is that it just wasn't Magic, the owner himself did not like how the team was playing and wanted to fire the coach. Guess what happened after they fired the coach? Magic was booed everywhere he went. Even Lakers fans were not happy with what he did. So all that earned right talk is nonsense. She just got to the W and she has won absolutely nothing. |
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread - Onward To The Afrobasket by lovewins: 6:42pm On Jun 30 |
BascoVanVeli: Again you're arguing outside the point comparing apples and oranges. . You say examples exist where athletes are asked to rein in their fans, yet you cited an example of a player who was actively racist as comparison. Did Caitlin personally abuse anyone racially like Bonucci was alleged to have done? Give examples of a player whose fan was reportedly reckless and the said played publicly had to call out their fans. Also, Caitlin was never asked about racism or any of the isms. Not once was she asked about her the flack her teammates receives too. They were always generic questions about outside noise. Always. And she currently answers that she shuts it down. The only time she was asked directly about it she gave a response commensurate to the answer. Don't rewrite recent history. On Angel, the general sentiments was she wouldn't Immediately translate (emphasis on immediately). And it wasn't specific to her really, many felt the same thing about CC. Some persons even felt she should have spent an extra year in college to work on her offense. That was the general sentiments on Angel. Surprised you don't know this. Swoopes and Turasi are few of WNBA that said this. A few others and major WNBA pundits said this too, will need to search to get their names but it was common knowledge. Again it is why she's no 7 in the draft. How you want to twist that to mean something else is funny. On Sides, I responded in the second quote. |
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread - Onward To The Afrobasket by lovewins: 6:44pm On Jun 30 |
BascoVanVeli: Lol. I won't argue with you on this one. It's even laughable because those concerned are still alive and there literally a TV series that details everything that happened. The reason Westhead held to his guns was because the Lakers owner had promised to back his decisions and wouldn't sack him. Maybe you should read more before commenting on this. There's news articles that details everything that happened. No point arguing this one. Just in case you're interested, the TV series detailing this is Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty |

The Dtigress seem to have opened camp in Germany in preparation for the forthcoming Olympics. Players that have arrived camp gleaned from clues in the social media include: Amy Okoronkwo Promise Amukamara Tomi Taiwo Lauren Ebo New Entrant Oluwasolape Amusan and Making a return Ezinne Kanu Still unclear if this is an expanded roster where 12 will be chosen. lovewins: Update: There are unconfirmed rumours that Michaela Onyenwere of the Chicago sky was invited. Whether the invitations means she'll get a guaranteed spot remains to be seen as I don't see the Sky release her before the All star games. We'll find out more in the coming days. It appears there's a total of 25 players battling for 12 spots. I'm uncertain if this includes the home based players that were invited to camp in Abuja a few weeks ago. 2 Likes |
