for me i think we should disban all the  so called super rubbish, and i know lagerback will not stay so we should turn to samson saisai give him long contract to develop new super eagles team, hand the captain ban to enyeama and pick few from this team say 3 or 4 ready to learn. with that i belive next nations cup and world cup will be great for us

The problem wt super eagles is the Players themselves and NFF. No coach cn do better than ths within ths short period of time and wt ths set of players.
Lagerback might hv already knew dat bt decided to take the job for d monetary benefit which was juicy, promising to take SE to semi finals knowing that d people(NFF)he's fooling are notin bt hungry monkeys.
Disband ths present NFF wt those dat knw d job and are patriotic, replace our SE wt the boys of siasia and under 17 wt injection frm some home based players let me see if we cnt get to semi final or final of d next WC and also wins d ANC.
Let the preparation begins now!

I support your comment, although it may not be siasia, but any good nigerian coach and other ex-internaional should be invited to participate as task force to support the new coaching crew, but nff, those glass house lords will always spoil show for us,

after all the wonderful reactions by Largerback what happened? we could not defend one goal and was instead scored 2 unreplied goals and we lost the match 2-1 and you still think after loosing the match whatever tactics employed by the coach worked

shocking!!!!!!

How was that his fault that the players could not defend a goal lead. How was it is fault that our players kept losing posession all the time? If you have terrible players, all the coaching in the world wouldn't help you.

reemix123:

@Davidif

Its quite obvious that you know nothing about football and writing in caps only exposes your ignorance more. How can a weak team like Nigeria winning 1-0 play 4-4-1 and then revert 3-4-3 ? Is the coach mad ? How can a weak team winning 1-0 bring on an attacker ? Do you know what an experieneced coach called Mourinho did when Inter Milan was down to ten men he played 5- 4-0 formation and held Barcelona hostage till the end of the game. This is text book stuff my friend. If Lars was  a good coach he would have put everyone back to play strictly defensive football. His decisions in world cup have been very poor, let's not fool ourselves he is another Oyibo that has come to milk foolish Nigeria earn his fee and go home. Shell have been doing it for years.
He is the coach and so must take the blame irrespective of the time spent he knew the challenges and set his fee accordingly $1.3m for two months is not peanuts. After all before collecting his cheque he declared the Nigeria will reach quarter finals if he couldn't perform he shouldn't have collected the money. So please stop givinh excuses for poor electricity, no water, poor roads, poor governance and poor Oyibo football manager earning $1.3m

You are ignorant, i said greece switched to a 3-4-3 formation, not nigeria geez, learn to read will you.

And thev red lip yobo in his post match interview said the players lacked experience, how? so shittu, yakubu, osase, kaareta, etuhu, rabiu, taiwo, kalu eben haruna are not experience enough? which other players in nigeria is experience then? maybe kanu, okocha amokachi & pastor TB west, he is a degrace for that comment.
Re: Lagerback's Fate: Should He Be Sacked Too? by medjai(m): 9:56am On Jun 18, 2010
Nobody should give the time factor as an excuse. Lagerback was aware of how much time we had but his rapacity led him to signing the contract and telling Nigerians that he'll take the SE to the semi finals. I want his head on a platter
Re: Lagerback's Fate: Should He Be Sacked Too? by davidif: 9:59am On Jun 18, 2010
solo1ng1:

Your analysis was wrong…how could you be playing 441 against greece that lacked depth? And the lone striker is the bulky yak…It seems you don’t watch football regularly. Lone strikers are sharp shooters, they have speed and agility to punish defenders. Rooney, martins, drogba, henry etc are great players that any coach could depend on as lone striker.
How could he still be defending two goals? Even if taiwo and echiejelle were injured, its and avenue to take risk and bring in a striker and use 3 defenders. I’ve seen great coaches in that situation b4.
What are you talking about?? Do you know how to comprehend at all? WE HAD USED UP ALL OUR SUBSTITUTIONS GEEZ. when kaita who was playing on the right wing got sent off, lagerback shifted osaze to play his position so as not to leave gaps in the wing (Nigeria started with a 4-4-2 formation with kaita playing on the right). Greece also took out a defender and brought in an extra striker. At half time, lagerback made the first substitution by bringing on a winger (obasi) to replace the striker (odemwingie) who had been playing kaita's postion on the wing so that they could exploit the fact that Greece now only had 3 defenders, Nigeria's strategy changed to defend and counter attack. Before we knew it, Taye Taiwo was injured and had to be taken off, so we made another substitution by bringing on Uwa Echiejile for him, then Echiejile also pulled his hamstring and had to be substituted for Afolabi, and in case you didn't know YOU CAN ONLY MAKE 3 SUBSTITUTIONS IN A GAME so we had used up all our subs and had no other options. If lagerback had brought in martins for yak, we would have ended the game with 9 men when echiejile pulled his hamstring.
Re: Lagerback's Fate: Should He Be Sacked Too? by AjanleKoko: 10:01am On Jun 18, 2010
I think Lagerback should be sacked for failing in his world cup target.
Then he should be re-hired with a new contract:
1. 4 years to raise and grow a new Nigerian team, with a initial target of Nations Cup Semi-final in 2012, final in 2014, and World Cup Quarters in 2014.

2. Succession Planning: He must work with two Nigerian young assistants: John Obuh and Samson Siasia, with a view to handing over the team to one of them by the end of 2014 WC.

3. Exchange programs with middle-tier leagues in Europe, to seed our young players in there, so they can get accustomed to the technicalities of the modern game at an early age. MRI needs to be deployed for these guys, mind you. Swedish, Norwegian, and Dutch leagues are not a bad choice. At least we can combine defensive abilities that Norwegian and Swedish teams exhibit, with the Dutch attacking flair.

Lagerback must also have the KPI for ensuring our local coaches spend rotational periods with clubs in his country. After all, he is a former national coach. He must have connections in his country.

For that, even if we pay him $8m a year, it is worth it. The Asians started growing by basically the same approach I outlined. Now they are coming to the World Cup with their own coaches, and producing a decent effort. Money has to be spent, but not on 62 senators, and greedy 'professional NFF officials'.
Re: Lagerback's Fate: Should He Be Sacked Too? by offyG: 10:07am On Jun 18, 2010
For what! It is only a goat that will say he could not see the work from the new coach. World cup is not a testing ground but a battle ground were stars rise and fall. Should we blame lagerback for our players lazy mentality of play or their inexperience in great tournaments(Kaita). Please we need to reset our thoughts towards him. By the way south Africa 2010 is one of the best World cup ever witnessed in history as countries are springing surprises everyday day
Re: Lagerback's Fate: Should He Be Sacked Too? by EvilBrain1(m): 10:16am On Jun 18, 2010
People, come on!!!

I don't understand how anybody who saw the last two matches can fail to see the clear and definite improvement in our performance. The eagles of Angola '10 played patternless, confused football but these guys finally playing with purpose.
The defense is better organised, the passing and movement are far better and there's a more sensible approach to set pieces. And even though I don't always agree with Lagerback's selections, its very clear what his game-plan is. For Gods sake, even fat Yak is playing better. We haven't gotten the results we hoped for but there's no doubt that a competent  makes a huge difference.

We keep on having the same stupid argument about local vs foreign coach and ignoring the obvious truth that we don't have any good local coaches. Siasia is the only decent coach we have and even he is untried at the highest level. Anybody who thinks Amodu (or Chukwu or Onigbinde) is a good coach clearly knows nothing about football. I wish Jose Mourinho or Arsene Wenger were Nigerians and if they were, I'd say sack Lagerback and hire them but they aren't.

The natonal team is no place for learners. We need to face reality.
Re: Lagerback's Fate: Should He Be Sacked Too? by Doptimist2: 10:24am On Jun 18, 2010
I feel like giving a sort-of 'conclusive' opinion on this, Lagerback should as a matter of fact be the LAST foreign coach or technical adviser or whatsoever you would call it, Nigeria would ever go for in search for who will help them bring back GOLDs to the country. They should wake up from their slumber and recognize that even if they bring on board Five 'International coaches', I mean 'Five Internationally recognized coaches' in the world to train or advise Super Eagles it may not yield good results or the expected Golds. Let's patronize our own and encourage them to do more and not to sack them.

Was it in the place of coach to have told Kaita some common football rules he ought to have known after some years of playing football, talk-less of international football like the World cup? He's a mess.

Lagerback should be sent home,

See you totally missed my point, even if Greece switched to 3-4-3 the point I was making is
1. that an experienced coach assessing the situation  would have immediately invoked a heavy defensive strategy, unlike Lars who was busy bringing on attackers, leaving his defence empty
2. That Lars category stated that before the world cup that he would take Nigeria to Quarter finals and even possibly win
3. That Lars is earning $1.3m for job which so far he has executed poorly timeframe is no excuse he had every opportunity to refuse the money but hey how many people get $1.3m for two months work.
4. Don't call him calm he is just Swedish, Swedes have 0% reaction to anything look at Sven
Re: Lagerback's Fate: Should He Be Sacked Too? by otokx(m): 10:34am On Jun 18, 2010
Lagerback should be sacked; the money we are paying him is just too much. He knew of the situation on ground before accepting and then engaging in media propaganda.

His tactics in that Greek match was totally wrong, i'd have shifted to a 3 - 4 - 2 formation to at least cushion the massive attack on the defense.

His choice of players to the world cup was so wrong, boys who are not fit and have injuries e.g taiye taiwo, uwa echejile and the rest.

The NFF had no much hand in his contract as they were bullied by the AMAECHI led presidential task force who actually foot the bill.

OMG, OMG, OMG

We are not just good loosers, we are always in a hurry, Lagerback has done his bit, though he should be blamed for the loss yesterday, fine! That does not take the shine off him, must we continue changing coaches, this man barely knows our players, lets exercise patience, buildig a team takes time. I believe this man has something to offer, it will only take time.

Re: Lagerback's Fate: Should He Be Sacked Too? by 007busman: 10:59am On Jun 18, 2010
Why blaming the coach for what kaita do.It show how mentally derange our players is.Even you can see same attitude in Haruna lookman during the friendlies. Also you can compare Amodu and the present coach.Amodu was given more that 2 years to prepare yet he can not raised a formidable team. The worst that Largerback gathered in less that 5months is better that the best of Mumudu  ( AMODU ) in 2years.Our problem is not coach per say but Amodu is far from being the coach he knows nothing, technical depth = 0, tactics = 0, match reading = 0,control of the team =0 =  AMODU.I think the Lulu should be sacked and some players banished from coming close any stadium in Nigeria not to talk of playing for Nigeria. The following player are to be banished,

Etuhu.Kaita,Yakubu,Obasi,Shitu,Yobo

LULU GO YOU DONT HAVE ANY RESULT TO MERIT NEXT TERM.

Re: Lagerback's Fate: Should He Be Sacked Too? by ehie007(m): 11:03am On Jun 18, 2010
the issue here is not the coach, the players are the root cause of the super eagles so also the NFF officials,

if we bring mourinho to coach us, we will get same results.

so, we shuld start from scratch and disband the team, lets them start with the last under 23 or 20 team and sprinkle a few experience with them to form the supereagles,
Re: Lagerback's Fate: Should He Be Sacked Too? by Reptyle(m): 11:06am On Jun 18, 2010
Abeg leave Lagerback alone and stop comparing him with that knuckle-head Amodu. Amodu was given 2 years by the demented folks at the NFF to foist his mediocrity on the team and look where we are today. We all expected Lagerback to come and perform magic with a team of mediocre players he only got to meet 3 weeks before the world cup. Oh, and before y'all start going like why did he accept the job, let me ask which of you would turn down that kind of money for a 6 months contract? What the Greeks capitalized on yesterday was not the ineptitude of our players or coach, but the poor psychology of the players themselves; their inability to rouse themselves from lethargy and stir themselves up to play like their lives depended on it.

Even if you bring Mourinho or Hiddink or even our beloved Siasia to coach this same team as presently constituted, the results would not be different. We need an entirely new team, a clean break from the past; a set of young and virile boys whose mentality has not been subjected to Amodu's anti-football style. A team of boys who knows what it means to fight or die till the final blast of the whistle. Did anyone watch the Italians play last week? Did you see the urgency in their game? Did you feel the never say die attitude they displayed when they were a goal down If you ask me, they are the most likely team to lift the world cup from all I have seen so far. Until the day we regain our ability to play that way, our football is DOOMED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rather than gloat, Amodu and his patrons at the NFF should go and hide their heads in shame at what they have done to our football.

otokx:

that is one point people don't seem to get, you don't pay huge salaries just to excersize patience.

Let Largerback GO and let us reserve all our patience for the next local coach.

But the only way we will make progress with a local coach is if we sack NFF too. Otherwise they will intentionally hire a good for nothing local coach again so that he will fail and the appetite of the Nation will be wet again for Foreign coaches and they will now justify it with their media spin doctors and hire another foreign coach for the next major tournament.

Desolo, I agree with you absolutely.

Clearly, the coaches have not been the problem of this team. Those guys are a bunch of junks! I am not persuaded that even a Murinho would achieve anything with these set of players. They are just technically poor!

Imagine, does Obasi need a coach to tell him how to tap in a re-bound? Do our midfielders need to be told by a coach how to block spaces, mark spaces and win balls? Do our strikers need any coach to tell them how to make off-the-ball movements? These guys are supposed to be professionals!

Like Adokiye always say, they should have learnt the tricks and technicalities at a tender age in which case it would have been part of them. They are now too old to learn these things.

Now is the time to rebuild a new team from the scratch and the man to do that should be SIASIA.
Re: Lagerback's Fate: Should He Be Sacked Too? by Nobody: 12:06pm On Jun 18, 2010
at what point did u guys realise that the players are just no good enough? Yesterday? Last week? 6 months ago?

We have at least known about the quality of these same players for 12 months

so why is somebody paying Lagerback the sought of salaries only those trying to win the world cup deserve?
Re: Lagerback's Fate: Should He Be Sacked Too? by Allwell(m): 1:16pm On Jun 18, 2010
I don't think you guys understand what's going on in that team. I think there's something fishy going on there. I have some questions to ask:

1. Why wasn't Yakubu substituted when it was obvious that he was unfit for the match? Or did the power brokers gave instructions that he must not be replaced in the match? I observed that Amodu hardly substituted the striker in any match.

2. Why Osaze replaced with a striker (Obasi) at half time when we know that Osas was not tired or injured? Did Osaze refuse to play in the second half of the game? If osaze was to be replaced don't you think it would have been with a defender and not a striker (obasi)

#3 What was Martins doing on that bench?

4. Was the team selected for the coach or did the coach select the team?

Pls no racism and don't crucify the coach!
Re: Lagerback's Fate: Should He Be Sacked Too? by nteno: 2:02pm On Jun 18, 2010

You ask great questions Allwell,   yet people will disregard these questions and opt to blame in full Keita.

In any given match, there could be a winner or a loser. Germany also lost a man down and it appears that they are going to lose to Serbia who lost to Ghana. Yet the German team played very well, and will do well against Ghana. Serbia also improved.

Nigeria has not improved, and the Uche goal was a fluke.

People that are saying that Siasia is untested and this and that arent aware of what is called "SOCCER", where a new player that's brought in wins a "CAP". Everyone starts somewhere, and SIASIA has done very well for our national teams.

Where was DUNGA or Maradona coaching before being appointed to coach those big nations. Even Dunga coached Brasil U23 team in the same Olympics that SIASIA coached and reached final.

What of Germany 2006, where Klinsmann coached for the first time?  You gotta give our coaches a chance, especially those who have done well. Most of our players have been discovered or worked with Siasia/Eguoveon already, and they have coached against the likes of MEssi and co.

Also, this is what we have, ANC 2012, then ANC again in 2013, WC Qualifiers from 2011-2013, WC 2014, and ANC 2015.

That's alot of tournament opportunity, and why not get a local coach to take over for 4-5 years? If he fails in ANC 2012, why not think he'll improve by ANC 2013?

SIASIA?EGUOVEON?OLISEH??

It's funny how Some of una no dey use una right side brain dey reason b4 una post comment. una plant seed today and una dey expect make that seed grow today, na jazz?  shocked . . even league coaches understands that if a player is bought newly into their club they'll feature the player gradually until the player adapts to the system of the league. even if lagarback looses his next match and NFF has the money to continue with him then he should be allowed to continue b'cos this is his first tournament with the super eagles and beside u don't expect miracles when u didn't pray, and he was paid "ARAB MONEY" dosen't guarantee that he should bring back the W.C to nigeria that 1 na day dreaming. the problem with the super eagles now is not the coach but the player's themselfs, their inability to give out their best on the match against greece unlike they did against argentina. Had it been they did, we won't have been talking about this topic today. Some people are saying bring back Amodu, well that's their opinion but to my own opinion if NFF is to sack the coach i'll go for SIA SIA cos he's the only nigeria coach that has won my heart to vote for. and why i won't want Amodu back is that, (to me) the super eagles don't always play out their best when they play under a nigerian coach unlike the way they'll play under a foreign coach. unlike when Westerhof was incharge of the eagle's y'all saw how the eagle's are playing and even under bonfere jo. so y'all should allow the coach to remain for the main time and let's see what he'll achieve b4 we call for his sack!

Daz ma opinion!
