The family who lost nine relatives when a duck boat sank in a Missouri lake hasfiled a lawsuit seeking $100million in damages against the owners and operators.

Attorneys representing the estates of Ervin Coleman and Maxwell Ly filed the lawsuit against Ripley Entertainment, the owner of Ride the Ducks of Branson, on Sunday.

Ervin, 76, and two-year-old Maxwell were two of the 17 passengers who were killed when the Ride the Ducks boat sank at Table Rock Lake on July 19.

Only two of the 11 family members, who were visiting from Indiana, survived the horrific accident.


The federal lawsuit accuses Ripley Entertainment of ignoring bad weather warnings that day and knowing the boat had design flaws that made is susceptible to sinking.

On Friday, ceremony was held for the four other Coleman family members who also perished in the devastating boat sinking, honoring Glenn Goleman, 40 and his three children: 9-year-old Reece, 7-year-old Evan and 1-year-old Arya.

Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett also shared his condolences at the funeral ceremony.

Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb spoke at the funeral to honor Horace Coleman, Belinda Coleman, Irvin Coleman, Angela Coleman and Maxwell Coleman five of the nine Coleman family members that perished in the tragedy.

Bishop G. Victor Morrisey Jr. of God's Love Christian Church told the mourners:'

I believe Glenn could have saved himself, I believe he could have got away by himself.

'But he wanted to make sure his family was going to be alright.

He wasn't going to leave his children to fend for themselves.

'He was able to corral all of his family together, his two sons and his baby.

'Tia has previously said that when her husband was found in the water, 'he had all three of my babies together'.

This accident was avoidable if the boat operators followed standard safety procedures.

Always be careful in and around water, it kills swiftly.

The grandfather and the 2 years old survived because the grandfather was able to handle one child.

All the women died! None could swim? Not like they were trying to save any of the kids.

If the women could swim, they would have been able to save themselves and at least a child each thereby reducing the burden from the man that died trying to save 3 of his kids at a go.

Everyone should learn how to swim or not go near the water at all. But then, what happened to live jackets and safety tires?
